There are some blood pressure meds that are used off label to treat headaches and they are very effective. We all are guinea pigs since this is a rare disease with too little funding for research. Those of us the respond well to the prescribed medication are lucky... My drs insisted that my headaches are caused by IIH, I disagreed. I was travelling out of the country to NY, where I used to live for three weeks, so I went to see my old drs who concurred that I was not having IIH headaches. I should increase my headaches medication and if that doesn't wok take Botox. Three months later I am still in New York, now maxed out on Topamax for IIH, Maxed out on my autoimmune medication, and maxed out on headache medication and still have daily headaches and vision issues. My eye dr wants to see me next week to be sure that I did develop papilledema and if exam is normal to an LP to be sure there is no elevated ICP. My neurologist did not mention anything about Botox yesterday he just said to stay on the same dose of headache medication. I guess he's waiting to see what happens at the eye dr.
There are people who develop chronic headaches post IIH. I just don't think I am one of them. Perhaps you are one of them? Do you have other IIH symptoms? I have tinnitus and TVOs along with my headaches.

I have been on topamax for a long while and a high blood presure med. I justvwas put on diamox, but after 2 weeks i discovered i was allergic. My neuro doc said insurace will only cover botox after 3 failed attemts at miagrane meds. I also have done lodocane injection in the nerves in my head. I do chiropractic care and massage and it helps a lot.

A second opinion couldn't hurt, but this medical issue is not understood by very many people. I was put on blood pressure meds to help with the headaches, and I have always had low blood pressure. I was also put on anxiety meds to help with the headaches, and after trying a few, I have found the right cocktail. I still get daily headaches, but they are no where near what they used to be. I couldn't handle diamox anymore, I was on 5000mg and it was ridiculous. I took topamax for a while as well, and it didn't last very long. I have taken so many different headache medicines, which only worked for a short period of time. I suffered from migraines before being diagnosed with IIH, and they became chronic when my IIH got under control and I got my shunt. It has been 6 years since I have been diagnosed, and I still have tinnitus, as well as blind spots that I haven't gotten back. My doctor took me off of diamox after I took myself off of it. I couldn't take what it was doing to my stomach, and every side effect that I got was magnified by 100 because I have a few other health issues that create a lot of problems with my stomach and pain levels.
I would definitely talk to a neurologist about the headaches, which you should be talking to anyways because IIH is a neurological problem as well. I had a whole team neuro-opt's neurosurgeons, and neurologists. Most of the doctors that I had never actually saw a patient with IIH as well as people with autoimmune issues at the same time. Treating headaches, whether they are IIH induced or not, they are like blood pressure. If you are stressed they will get worse, if you eat too much salt, it will get worse, any thing that will bring you blood pressure up will most likely give you a headache. I have gotten many second opinions, and also got to see how others react to certain meds because of the trial I was apart of.
