Hi april. Ohh, this is a touchy subject with us all.
One dr says you have IIH cause of extra weight, another says the opposite.
Some swear your paps will heal if you lose weight, others well, you get the idea.


I was not at all over weight when this all started. Just normal. Then for a year before diagnoses, I was on steroids for a year and put on 65 lbs! I looked ridiculous.
Thankfully and with the aid of Diamox (!)I lost all the weight and ... no difference.Nada.
My paps seem to have a life of their own.

Altho not" normal" as such, normal weight people, men and children can and do get IIH. This is the really hard part of this illness. there is no real set plan. It has so many variables it would drive you crazy. Cath.

this theory of weight to me does not hold the same amount of clout that it may have once upon a time in the diagnosing of IIH. my symptoms progressed & worsened as i lost weight.
i believe that weight loss can help in overall health & possibly to ease the symptoms of IIH, but i am not convinced in my own experience that this is the case. then again, we all experience this with a lot of commonalities, but just enough differences to make it unique to just us i am finding.

i was just a little overweight but when i got sick w/ pseudotumor i start losing a lot of weight and i continued to have headaches and etc..even though the doctor kept saying over and over it was weight and he said if i lose weight..the ptc will go away for good..and when i lost a lot of weight i bet he felt like a idiot because i still had a pseudotumor..i know a lot of ppl w/ ptc and all doctors told them to lose weight..i also know ppl who were underweight and had ptc..really in my opinion i think ptc have nothing to do w/ weight..

My 12 yo dd was just dx IH last week. Her opth told her that her patients that lost the weight come in all smiles and feel good, and the ones who don't suffer. Who knows if that's true... and if my dd loses weight and is still sick, that dr. is going to break her heart.

Realized recently that I've had PTC on and off for almost 34 years. When I was diagnosed I was just 18 and was 20 pds over weight at 145. I couldn't loose weight then, I tried. After med's (lasix, potass. diamox, cortisone and pain killers) I lost the weight in 2 months, Everything was fine, watched out for salt.
I forgot about the PTC in my everyday life. Weight was fine about 140/150 for years, even had a baby no problems. 9 years ago (160pounds) was tired of not using birth control and got the shot that lasted 3 months, I believe that is when I started to gain the PTC weight again, and I couldn't loose weight. Couldn't get it off. 6 months ago I got a pneumonia and had tetracycline and another antibiotic that the made the PTC worst. Gained 15/20 pounds within a couple of months. Taking Diamox and I've been able to loose 20 pounds, no headaches or vision problems anymore. I believe that the weight, which is excess fluid, is the problem for me, I may be wrong, time will tell, we'll see once this excess weight is gone. For me the weight is the PTC,
