I've done it and actually had 2-3 hours of testing and then had to go back 2 weeks later for another 2 hours. It is just a bunch of memory questions. It was one on one. I was in a small room with the Dr and there were no outside distractions so it is easier to remember paragraph stories, etc. that winds up hurting you down the road if you need to use it for any sort of disability hearing. They show you pictures of circles and diamonds, take them away and ask you to draw them from memory. All sorts of things like that.

A lot of it. It was designed with the best environment possible, in order to get the best results. Which I understand the idea, but disagree with it as well. It's easy to get better results in a nice, neat, controlled environment - however, who actually lives/works in an environment like that?

All in all the testing was frustrating, more because I could tell a difference in how much I had to zone in and really concentrate. And afterwards my head hurt!

I was denied my long term disability thru my company because they say it is questionable as to whether or not a person tries hard enough to do well on the neuro psych test. i had the test done 2 times almost a year apart and they both had the same results. Of course they have doctors on their payroll review the results and instead of listening to my doctors that aren't on any payroll, they denied me.

Oh my! Having been through the testing I can't imagine someone going out to do poorly on it. How frustrating! When I came out of there I could definitely see how providing the "perfect" environment could encourage better results, plus some of the questions were almost designed as trickery (or it seemed to me). I am quite sure any possible use in any future disability claims it would be used against me, which stinks. I hate when insurance companies do the doctoring and not the job they're supposed to do.

Hopefully this comment makes sense I've got something really weird going on and can't get words out right.

They do some kind of statistical analysis to tell if the results follow certain predictable patterns to guage full effort. Read their whole analysis. It should explain their thinking. Thing is, I'm not convinced that our cognitive abilities, results, whatever, follow predictable anything with our pressure going up and down, sometimes by the minute. Mine was done by someone who was expert in chronic pain syndomes, and how I felt was factored into everything all day. BTW, mine was a marathon. 6 hrs x 2. By the end I felt brain dead. Body dead too.

Mine lasted almost 5 hours but I had one session one day and another session on a different day. I paid it out my pocket and I did it because I wanted to know what was wrong with my memory. The Dr. was simply excellent and I felt I could share a lot of my worries. She did further testing because if you have a deep educational background, the results can be affected. So she explored the possible changes within my own category. I happen to have a poor visual memory and an excellent oral memory. The only possible explanation is the IIH. The Dr. went further and did a special research of many case studies that have been done that point to hopefully good news: the damage is reversible. She even gave me copies of the research.
This has been one of the best experiences I've had since I was Dx. Not due to the results but the professionalism that my Dr displayed and the best investment I've done so far, because it helped me understand my strong and weak sides.
