LP shunts

I have a question for those with lp shunts. I have a really bad cough (may be due to an enlarged thyroid or upper respiratory pending x-ray results) and I've coughed so hard that the area where my shunt is, it is starting to get sore from coughing so hard. My doc gave me a cough suppressant to calm my cough until we know what is going on, but I'm worried I could hurt my shunt. Should I be concerned? Thanks!

sorry to hear things have been rough! there are a few of the guys with shunts about, you just need to catch them!
I just wanted to say hope your cough settles down and its nothing too serious and that you start to feel better soon, i know its worrying when you are not sure whats going on!

I do have an LP shunt, but I'm not sure I have an exact answer. From the tests I have had recently and the conversations with doctors, an "easy" test would be to get a shunt series x-ray. This shows where the shunt is attached to, so they would be able to see if it has moved. A word of encouragement, the way I understand it, when the NSG puts in the shunt it is firmly attached and inbedded into the tissue. This way, it is not easily moved around by daily life. Can it still happen? Absolutely. But there's a lot it has to go through before becoming detached.

Thanks for all the replies. I went back to my pcp and he put me on allergy meds and acid reflux meds, but cough was still there. So, I went to an ENT yesterday and he looked at my throat via a scope and said he thinks it may be a combo of stress and acid reflux. So, I guess I need to watch what I eat better and try not to stress so much. Now, I'm dealing with shunt issues (not related to cough). Oh joy! Thanks for your support!
