Well, I had my dreaded LP done on Friday and my OP was 22 with my VP Shunt. They took about 30% of my fluid to send off for lab, so I ended up really dehydrated and needed IV fluids and also some pain meds for a headache I got almost immediately after the LP. On Saturday, I woke up With a bad headache and was very nauseated :-( took a pain pill and stayed in bed the remainder of the day taking in fluids as directed on discharge papers. Well, it is now Sunday, and I am still in bed with a neckache, backache and minor headache. May be a stupid question, but should I head to the ER for a blood patch?
I had the lp on a Fri and was back in the A+E by Monday. They kept me for two days, IV drip of saline and pain meds. I guess the most important thing they did for me was to keep me quiet and laying flat as it is the only answer. Of course, altho I tried I didn't do it at home. At the hospital, they made me. I felt better by Tues evening and was let home. Hd was a lot better but didn't go until the Fri, the full 7 days they said it would take. I was fine after that, altho a little back ache.
I'm not sure if they do things differently in the US to here, Ireland, but that's my story if its any help to you. I hope you do feel better soon, Cath.
