I am seeing my dr on Wednesday and will bring it up to her but I am a bit concerned about something and wanted to see if any of you knew anything about the possibility of low potassium causing high blood pressure. Since my diagnoses in May my blood pressure has consistently been pretty good - around 110/70, but when I checked it last week and again this week I was shocked to find it VERY high around 140/90. I am currently on diamox, topamax, and lasix. These medications should, if anything, be keeping my blood pressure down, but if made me think that maybe they have depleted my potassium and that has made my pressure go up? is that a possibility? I eat a banana every day, but maybe that is not enough. I don't know that I have low potassium but that is the only explanation I can come up with for the sudden change. Any thoughts?
no, unlikely. but you probably ought to be on a potassium and a magnesium supplement. the mag may help your BP.
however, if you have obstructive sleep apnea like many of us here with IIH, that can raise blood pressure.
my BP has been running high when I am stressed. then when I am home alone it drops to less than 100/60. make note of where you are, how you are feeling and what you are doing when your BP is high or normal.
