Has anyone heard of the copper IUD leading to copper toxicity and/or hyperthyroidism?
the reason you get worse around your period?

OSA is worse around your period due to hormonal effect on upper airway tone. it might get better if you lose weight, as OSA tends to get better with weight loss. didn't work for me however, as it depends on upper airway anatomy.
and make your docs deal with the OSA issue. one of my daughter's friends had a study similar to yours I think. only 2 apneas all night, but she desaturated to 80% so they diagnosed OSA. but you have to know that for her to desat like that, she surely had more sleep disordered breathing than they detected. I'm sure the same thing happened with your study. they picked up the desats but not the apnea, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there! the criteria have changed, new recommendations as of October 2012 so ask for them to repeat the study with the new criteria and maybe they will find it this time?
I just looked up copper deficiency in wikipedia (which we all know contains perfect knowledge, lol....). http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copper_deficiency
It doesn't sound like it's common, but it does happen. Symptoms include ataxia, peripheral neuropathy (which many of us have anyway), optic neuropathy (color blindness and vision loss). A lot of stuff we have anyway. I guess a bloodtest would answer the question easily. I doubt it's my problem. I eat far too much dark chocolate which is high in copper. :-)
I guess the reason I was making the thyroid connection is I developed it only a few months after the placement of the IUD and then the symptoms a few months later.
