Yep. I was cleaning out my fridge and as I stood up I banged my head on edge of the freezer. I saw stars and blacked out slightly. My headaches were so bad afterwards, but eventually went awhile and then I was fine. This was when I was at my best.

I did the same thing as Tiffany, I banged my head on the edge of the freezer as I was lifting up from getting something out of the produce drawer. It hurt around my shunt for 24hrs and I had a bad headaches for 24-48hrs but then it went away and I was fine! My NS once referred to the force needed to break the shunt to a baseball hitting your head, now that's one doctors opinion that could be wrong.

Well now, thats what happened to me! I got hit with a baseball bat.Wham, in to the side of my head, with a base ball bat, by a child. Not the child's fault I may add, but my lack of peripheral vision.
Down I went, legs buckled, seeing stars, and a new kind of a hd but , that's all. It hurt for a few days but nothing major. I have to admit, I was terrified for the first few hrs as I thought we would be making a trip to the hospital, but no need.
So, I would say, these shunts are made of stronger stuff than our skulls! No worries! Unless of course, you lose consciousness, vomit, lose some vision, etc. Them, hop in to the car and fast track it to the hospital. Cath.

Thanks for all of your responses :) I totally appreciate it! I freaked myself and my husband out with it, that to calm my nerves, I had them page my NS. He said to take some Tylenol and if I started vomiting, etc, to get to the ER. Today, my head where I hit it, is sore, but I am okay :) Whew! So relieved!

Hey GBF, Are you sure you didnt just faint when the Packers lost? lol.

Glad you are feeling better. I too fell and hit so hard I ended up with aComment:
sub dural hematoma. My NS was not happy with me. It healed on its own but I understand your fear.

How are you doing other than the goose egg?

Ha Ha TJ..I am doing great other than the goose egg, especially since the Packers won agains DA BEARS today :) How have you been? I go to my Opth NS next month for my six month follow-up appt. I'm crossing my fingers that he won't recommend a spinal tap this time around, as he mentioned he may want to recommend one soon just to get a baseline since I have experienced some dizziness...I haven't had one done since several months prior to my VP Shunt surgery.

TJ- Also, sorry to hear you hit your head and ended up with a hematoma..

I hit my head on the side of the car hard and saw stars for a while. The next day I went for my eye appt and PCP appt and was told I had a minor concusion. Now I never would have know if I did not go to these appts because I would not have went to the doctor. The doctor said the bump from the car right on shunt pushed right into my head caused a concusion, there was no reason to worry just extra fluids and rest required.
