I think I'm turning into a grape

Quick question...as all of my doctors are gone for the day. As the morning and now afternoon has progressed my head has gotten worse. I looked down at my hands a couple minutes ago and they were purple and swelling, my legs were very swollen this morning (previous surgery and arthritis after storms did not make me very concerned, but now I am wondering if the two are related). I know this is not a "doctor site," but has anyone had experience with or can give me some idea if I should be worried?

if your hands are really purple this can indicate cyanosis, or a low oxygen content in your blood. your toes and your lips should also appear purplish, or not pink. for this I would go to the ER. and you probably do not want to be driving, as this can make you pass out.
peripheral swelling is associated with IIH, but they don't know why and most docs probably are not aware of the association. leg swelling is pretty common and can indicate venous insufficiency. kind of just happens as we age. however, hand swelling is a different story. it indicates something more concerning. like, hypoalbuminemia which can occur in nephrotic syndrome, congestive heart failure. for example, we see swelling in pregnancy commonly, but hand swelling raises a significant concern of pre-eclampsia. I would go to the ER. it's Friday. you have had crazy things going on for months and I am concerned they are completely missing what is going on.

Hmm. I don't remember enough of what you've written in the past about your medical history to hypothesize, but definitely worth getting checked out sooner than later. This has never happened before? Purple is something to get worked up for. There are various things that could cause this but one could be that you are having clotting issues and then you would need intervention right away before you have damage to your tissue from the lack of oxygen to your limbs. Sorry, wish I could tell you no big deal, going to the ER gets old!
