I have been on a really good stretch the past few months with very few headaches. I'm still on Diamox and Lasix. We are expecting a hurricane here between tomorrow night and Sunday, and my head is throbbing. It started about two days ago, it almost felt like my head was slowly filling with fluid. I'm really hoping this HA is because of the barometric pressure changing due to the storm. Anyone else on the East coast having similar symptoms?

I'm freaking out a little because I'm finally returning to work next week. I've been out of work since last March as a special education teacher. I'm hoping Hurricane Irene comes and takes my headache with her!!

Hi aunie! I live right near Myrtle Beach and yes, I will tell you in my experience (and a good friend who has since past away) that barometric pressure affects ih. Of course you will not find a dr to tell you this because they don't have they 'scientific data' they need to back it up but it's nasty here right now and all day long my head has been pounding and vision going in and out. I will keep my fingers crossed that in both our cases it is that simple and it'll reslove when this hurricane is gone. Good Luck and keep us posted!

So sorry to hear that Irene is headed your way. Somehow it dodged us is S.Floirda for once.. but I can tell you from LOTS of experience that YES barometiric pressure does has a major effect of h/a's and all kinds of health conditions.
When I was still working in the field, at the hosptial, sadly, it was very typical to see patients who were chronically ill, pass away, as hurricane's approached and the barometic pressure dropped. Likewise, women who were close to their due dates would often go into pre-term labor.
Head aches and back aches are a commonly researched and documented phenomonon associated with this.

According to research it is because of the change in pressure that cause changes in oxygen levels.

It is suggested that the blood vessels in your head expand or contract to compensate. Changes in the size of your blood vessels is part of the flow of changes that happen when you get a migraine headache. This is also why you may get a headache when flying, hiking, or even travelling to a new location.

During a hurricane it's a bit more difficult to seek some of the suggested home remedies .. but to releive some of your pain there are a few good suggestions such as using an ionizer / humidifer, taking certian meds from your neuro and making use of aromotherapy as best as possible .

In normal circumstances, accupuncture , chiropractic or massage may help you adjust to the changes in pressure.
