HOW WOULD I KNOW IF MY LP SHUNT VALVE HAS MOVED

HEY ALL SO I HAD MY LP SHUNT PLACED ON DEC.29TH AND HAVE HAD THE NORMAL LUMP ON THE INCISION SITE ON MY SPINE BUT I NOTICED TODAY A LUMP JUST TO THE RIGHT OF MY INSICION SITE PROBABLY ABOUT 1 OR 2 INCHES APART...THIS IS ALSO THE SIDE THAT MY TUBING RUNS ALONG. IM A BIT CONCERNED THAT MAYBE MY SHUNT VALVE HAS MOVED OVER AND COME LOOSE...DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THATS WHAT IT COULD BE OR IF ITS NORMAL.

Hi April I am a little confused about your post. Is your valve in your back, or did you mean the abdomen? If you have a lump on your back I would be concerned that it is swelling from the surgery. If your valve is in your back I cannot help you there because my LP shunt valve is in the abdomen. Is the lump 1 or 2 inches apart from your original lump or has the lump moved 1 or 2 inches from where it was before? I would definitely call your NS about any and all concerns or if it is painful I would go to the ER. Something does not sound right. Sorry I am not much help.

Hi April. I haven't got a LP shunt but I think i remember Mandy Rae had a similar problem.
For her, it was a leak from the shunt, causing the extra csf to collect in a spot near her spine. Does this sound like what might be happening to you?
She had quite a large lump at the base of her spine and I think she had to have some further surgery to correct it.
How are you feeling? Does it feel like the shunt may be in trouble? Besides the lump? Like a fever, feeling excessively tired,pain at the site?

I don't think the shunt itself would move but as you are still in the post op days, I would say go back and talk to your NS.
Don't wait for some thing to happen.
It is probable something small is wrong so don't worry, and hopefully it will be resolved quickly.
