Hey everyone ! So my VP shunt was placed 2 days ago. I'm home now and the incision pain is pretty bad. The Laparoty holes in the stomach are equally painful. I can feel the pressure is finally down in my head, but to this point, I still feel the brain fog and I also feel alot of the other symptoms like the Anxiety.
The POTS and other Autonomic Dysfunction symptoms still seem to be present. The Dr. was hopeful these would resolve from the shunt and he did tell me it could take up to a month after the shunt was placed for these things to resolve as the brain tissue and the cranial nerves, etc. were all under pressure for so long.
It makes sense to me, but at the same time, it would have been nice to wake up and feel these things were all gone. If after 30 days it's all still there, I will be very discouraged.
Did anyone experience a "Delay" in resolution of symptoms after their shunt was placed ? I know it is working as the head pressure is all but gone. I never really had headaches, but rather head pain. The Dr. wants me on the Mast Cell meds, but I'm gonna wait 3 weeks or so in case my Mast Cell symptoms resolve, then I wouldn't need them.

First of all, if you think you'll be okay without taking medication and the doc says it's not really necessary to take them, I wouldn't do it.
You're only operated for a short time ago, so I think you should give it some time. It's been seven weeks that my VP shunt was placed and I notice that my body is now a bit starting with getting used to the new situation. I think it is different for each person, each person recovers at his own pace. But if you're really worried about something, go see your neurosurgeon.
I'm glad to hear that you can feel the pressure is reduced! And I hope all the symptoms will be gone soon.

I do seem to be doing better now. I'm exactly 7 days post op today. My head is def. not as bad. I'd say I'm about 60^ better overall which is huge for me. I can get out now and function a bit without being in such distress.
My shunt is adjustable and we took it from 6cm to 11cm just 2 days ago. I noticed the difference within 24 hours if that is possible.
Hard to know if I need to take it higher. I don't want to overshoot the mark, but at the same time, I don't want to be too low either :-) Only one way to tell I guess...
