YES!!! Absolutely... I have to take 10 minuite showers at the absolute maximum time. Thats with shaving, shampoo and conditioner, brushing my hair out and full body wash. The same goes for hot baths too. I can only be in a bath for 10 minutes. I get nauseated and dizzy if im in either longer. The oonly thing I can think of is maybe the heat produces a quicker blood flow that we are moresensative to, these are almost the only times I get nauseated on the daily... eihter than having to deal with alot of stress, eye movement and sounds, which I walk away from when I can. But I keep my showers to the "coolest" / less hot temperature as possible. But sometimes when I take too long or eventually increase the temperature , I have to lay down, put a napkin with an ice pack on my eyes, and take a "zofran". I havent brought this up to my doctor as I cant see them being able to help me out with it since everyone has to clean up daily. But Im glad you brought this up. It is one of those things that I just swept under the rug.

Ahh welcome to my life, literally. Since I was an infant, I can't handle heat. I have huge shade trees, pool covered by shade, shade hats. Heat in too long of a shower sends my POTS into overdrive. In heat my pulse in the 140s, my eyes pulsate, and face is so red a tomato gets jealous.
Oh Dr Sophiasmom, whats up with the heat? I agree with Val about producing faster pulse. Pain relates to high pressure, neck and all.

well..... PV=nRT after all, remember chemistry? pressure is directly proportional to temperature. I cannot tolerate heat either. but a hot shower makes me feel better. I think it drops my blood pressure which allows my ICP to go down as the pressure differential from CSF to central venous pressure increases. Val the nausea and dizziness from the hot bath could be from your BP dropping too low.

remember one of our members who isn't around anymore, he takes multiple ice baths per day because it is the only thing that helps him reduce his pain, which is mostly in his eyes. I think the ice bath may cool the CSF in his spinal column, ultimately dropping pressure in the whole CSF system.

But, heat = vasodialation = easier flow.
Least that's how it works for me.

Baths make me feel worse, showers make me feel better. Baths make my headache much worse and make me feel wobbly and weak. I think the difference is my body temp during each of them, which is higher during a bath. Showers with a massaging showerhead help my muscles and my neck feel better. It also helps warm me up a little without getting too hot because I'm always freezing cold (especially hands and feet), winter or summer.

Sea, the cold hands and feet is a common finding in UARS. I have suspected for a long time that your OSA is not adequately treated. I think you need a higher pressure, that your local lab cannot determine using their equipment or hypopnea criteria. but, I also think that PAP is problematic in IIH. it's a very bad combination of problems to have.

My pressure is so high now that my airway is CONTINUALLY open when I have that darn mask on. It's incredibly uncomfortable. It pumps my stomach full of air so it's hard and sticking out a mile in the morning. Any more pressure and I will pop like a balloon. I'm looking into having the pressure lowered, actually. I think weight loss and always sleeping upright has decreased my sleep apnea. There are lots of things that cause cold hands and feet and a cold body; in this case I just don't think it's apnea. Unless I'm stopping breathing and it has nothing to do with my airway. But I don't think that's the case.

Sea, that's true. I assume your thyroid has been checked? your TSH should be less than 2.5, despite what the labs report as "normal" reference ranges. if you are on that much pressure then think about what that is doing to the resistance in your internal jugular veins and CSF drainage.

it used to happen to me a lot as a teen a hot long shower and i would get out the moment i felt sick and just lay on a towel on the floor till i felt okay to get up. i often felt like i would pass out.

to this day i always think it must be low blood pressure from the hot shower. i don't have the best circulation so i just chop it up tot that.

Yes...glad I am not alone. I have tried to explain this to my husband but he does not understand. I do not enjoy showering and usually dread it but always do it lol...! You would think it would feel good but it doesn't...I always thought it was alot of my fibro but maybe its my IH too. We have all glass shower doors and I am afraid I will lose my balance and fall...

Mandy, my guy took those out for me as I wss afraid too. The only bad thing is our entire shower wall is glass block window, ceiling to top of tub, uggg. I hate that thing, I swear the builder of my home was an exhibitionist.

Don't know if this relates or not -- but I got horrible migraines from the PTC ONLY during the (high humidity) monsoon season where I live. Hot showers are the ultimate form of high humidity, aren't they? And, of course, our monsoon season is in the summer, so it's HOT, high humidity. So, it makes sense to me. I was in agony for five months. So, I take baths, and only shower once a week to wash my hair -- and I run a lot cooler shower than I used to. I'm so sorry that you're suffering from your showers. Bet you used to love them!

It relieves some of the pressure in my head. Any other type of heat i can't tolerate though.
