What does going to the er do? I have had the worst headache in my neck for 3 days now. I've been taking ibprophen and Tylenol and its not helping. What will going to the er do? I'm afraid ill end up just waiting my time and end up with another sickness. My 2nd opinion neuro told me my pain wasn't consistent with iih... So told me to continue what the neuro was doing. My optic nerve swelling is gone, which originally was my only symptom. I didn't start getting headaches till I started topamax.

Are they low pressure headaches? Do they get better when you lie flat on your back? I have never gone to the ER for headaches but I am sure they can offer different pain medications that are stronger than Tylenol or Ibuprofen.

Hi hun. If the pains didn't start until taking Topomax chances are that is not the drug for you. I had severe headaches with topomax and could not tolerate it. When you go to ER they will be able to give you a strong drug to knock out the headache. HUGS to you. Keep us posted.... Do NOT let the doc make you think your pain is not explainable or it's not important bc you have to take care of yourself. I had to advocate for me bc noone else listened. I was fed up with the medical care I received here in GA, googled the #1 neurosurgeon in the country and went there to get care. I was NOT going to live that way anymore....

yeah, I understand what your saying about the topamax. I also started some hormones about the same time. I just recently started a new hormone and phentermine so im curious if that has anything to do with it. I was doing better this morning, but its not doing great now:(

the advice on here is great, so I hope it helps you out. but speaking from experience the er can help if you know what to ask for. for low pressure headaches don't take ibubroin or advil. it will only make it worse ask for straight caffine it will make it better. I have iih and have suffered for about 5 yrs and just this last year I had a vp shunt put in . before that the headaches were terrible. so I hope you get better.l

Topamax gave me headaches every day for 3 weeks. I finally dropped it and felt better. It is likely a problem with the topamax.

I didn't take the adapex today and am feeling so much better! I really think it was adapex.

It sounds like you've found a solution but I wanted to say that neck pain is a symptom of ih. Mine gets sore when pressure is up and crackles like popping bubble wrap when I turn my head. A bit disconcerting, really.

Before I had shunts, my ER visits were to have a spinal tap to reduce the pressure. No pain meds will take the high pressure headache away! The only way to take the headache away is to reduce the pressure! The ER nurses thought I was a nut job, when I refused pain meds and said that I just needed a spinal tap to reduce the pressure. Kind of the opposite for most people, who go to the ER WANTING drugs!!

Just an FYI: I am pretty sure my IIH is a hormonal issue. I think it was caused by birth control. It seems to be worse when I am menstruating. I am also on topomax. Topamax seems to not allow me to get headaches. Instead it settles the pain in my shoulders and neck. Maybe a combination of the hormone drug and topamax is causing the pain for you.
