Has anyone ever taken Fioricet to help with pain? I have this med prescribed for migraines, but they told me to try it with PTC headache. Anyone ever have any luck? My neuro is so paranoid about rebound headaches he doesn't even want me taking advil on a regular basis. I'm in pain and have no pain meds. What do people take for pain, that they find helpful? I'm hoping if I go to him with some suggestions from other people he will listen?

I take fioricet - it helps a little. I know doctors are a little screwy when it comes to pain meds. I understand about the whole rebound headache thing, and I try to not to overdo pain pills, but sometimes there is no alternative. I hate that doctors sometimes make you feel like you are an addict - I had migraines growing up, sinus headaches when I was in college, which I had to have two sinus surgeries for and ptc headaches - the other two were a walk in the park compared to ptc.

I also take fioricet for the ptc headaches. It worked well at first, but I did get rebound headaches (not going to lie, much worse than my everyday headaches, I went to the ER because of it) because I was taking it every 4 hours as the script said because the headaches were sooooo bad. I try to switch up my pain meds as someone else mentioned, but I'm in the same boat. The doc won't give me pain meds and basically says suck it up. Well, I don't dig it. I've got a call in to my doc right now about pain meds, I've called and left messages for the last three days and haven't heard back. Boohiss!

To deal with my headaches... my neurologist advised if they are mild to take 3 Aleve or another Nsaid... for extreme headaches I have injectable Torodal... I really don't lik taking the injections cause the Torodal burns like fire as its injected... However if I am in enough pain i will do it... My neurologist is great and gives me alternative to pain meds... like Doxepin and Baclofin...

I am on the fioricet and norvasc too....no such luck so far.

Hi Nicole,

Fioricet only works for very low level HAs for me. I have a few left over from the early pain days of trying everything so if it is just a little pain I'll give it a try. If it does nothing I take other stronger meds to try to get a handle on it. For me, the worse the pain gets the harder it is to get it back if it is even possible so I am not shy about taking them. Rebounds can happen and we are all different there.

I also use hydrocodone, oyxcodin/oxycotin, and dilaudid (hydromorphone) when it gets worse, however when it gets really back, well, they just don't make anything that relieves the pressure/pain we go through.

I tried the Fioricet yesterday and no luck. I really wish my Neuro would give me something for the pain. I swear I'm not some crackhead drug seeker....just a girl with severe head pain. Even just to have something that would allow me to fall asleep would be nice. They gave me dilaudid in the hospital at one point...very bizarre feeling at first but pain free within a minute.....for at least a little while.

I am on Tramadol for pain. I also have Methadone, Oxycodone, Hydrocodone as well. When I am in ER for a bad HA, I get Dilauded sometimes up to 4-5 rounds of it before I am comfortable enough to go home.
I would ask for something, and if he doesn't prescribe something, ask your primary...he/she may give you something.
