when I first got sick years ago, but at that time did not know what the problem was, one of the things I stopped being able to eat was microwave popcorn. the other was soy sauce. anything even naturally fermented contains MSG even when it is not on the label. I already knew that salad dressings and soups were out. not to mention Doritos, etc.
I hope all goes well with your new VP shunt! Sending well wishes your way.
I'm an exception. A side effect of my Diamox is blood pressure that gets too low and sodium levels that are too low. That makes me dizzy and sometimes pass out. So my kidney doc tells me to eat salt. He also has me drink lemonade to help manage the acid level in my body and to prevent kidney stones. It's counter-intuitive but lemonade (acidic) actually makes the body more alkaline. Add in the potassium citrate tabs and there you go.
I love my nephrologist. His prescription for me: a big glass of lemonade and salty snacks every day! Okay, and four big potassium horse pills.
My new VP shunt is working great after having 6 revisions of an LP shunt so I know you will be so much better! You are in my prayers.
