Pseudotumor Cerebri Support Group
Pseudotumor cerebri (PTC) is a neurological disorder that is characterized by increased intracranial pressure, in the absence of a tumor or other diseases affecting the brain or its lining. also, a doc who wants to doubt your dx because you are skinny is a MAJOR red flag. remind this neuroophthidiot that obesity is not a modified Dandy criteria. and have you had your sleep study yet? can't remember where you were with that.
the goofiness and social awkwardness of your old doc may reflect Asperger's which in a doc may be actually a good thing, in terms of their attention to detail and concern for the facts, and concern for you. this type of person will be less concerned with the bottom line as in doing their job right.
Plus, next time you have an LP done try to get it done on your side with your legs very slightly bent, which is the way that doesn't affect the OP. Or, the needle put in while you are on your stomach, they roll you over onto your side to take your pressure. On your stomach can elevate the OP.
Sorry to hear they are being dismissive of your son, Sophiasmom. That stinks. I had a sleep study a few months ago which was interpreted as normal. Granted it was at MN Sleep Center and not Stanford :) but it seems to have gone well. I did stay for the MSLT the next day and - surprise - it showed that despite a normal night's sleep I'm tired. No kidding. I'm been complaining of fatigue for three years now. They prescribed nuvigil which I did not take, as I believe the fatigue must be caused by something rather than my brain needing stimulants for "energy."
Thanks for the feedback everyone!
I am with the votes for the one that sees the Paps and OTC as more of an issue at least for now. Maybe try mentioning to her the things about how she communicates that are upsetting and offering her some feedback as to how it would be easier for you to work with her. After all you are paying her for a service.
Sorry for my long sabbatical one and all! Work has been insane and I had a nasty relapse that fried my ability to do anything other than survive my job and fight to stay somewhat functional. Reading, responding, and researching were not an option. I think I am back. I missed you all. Sophiasmom, I haven't forgotten about my project, but brain fog is attacking like none other so it is taking a bit longer. By the way, lame sleep study showed nothing, but manipulating the system to address spine/back/breathing through more indirect methods. Thanks for the articles and ideas. Now to catch up on what has been going on with the rest of the posts!
