Probably a shunt, I'd imagine.
Diamox didn't work for me either, and my neuro ophthalmologist told the neurosurgeon I needed a Shunt Surgery ASAP.

Hi, I'm sorry, its been a real bad hd week so you would you mind back tracking for me a bit?
How long are you on Diamox/Topamax?
Why are they suggesting the shunt now? because of the pain? Or how bad the paps are?

I got a shunt 3 years ago, didn't help my paps at all, nor did Diamox.
They healed, in their own good time while I was off all meds!
I am saying , caution ok?Really find out what is on your neuro and NS mind, altho the NS is all about the "cutting"! that's their job.

Hi, I agree with Cath. How long did you give diamox or topamax a chance to work. It took bout 4 months on topamax and then my daughters paps cleared up. From what they say, she had pretty bad paps. Her NO says unless she is loosing her sight he won't consider a shunt because they don't always help with the pain and sometimes create other problems.
I know the meds are horrible but once the body adjusts I think they do what they are supposed to do.

Please do your research and don't rush into surgery cause even though it helps lots of folks, it is not a cure all. But of course you and your doc will discuss and find the best route for you. We will keep you in our prayers.

Cath is right--
I was only on Diamox for about a month, with no results when they decided a shunt was best for me, however I know that was only because of a RAPID scary amount of decrease in my vision, increase in double vision, decreased field of vision and declining ability to control my eye moments on my own.
And the first thing the NS told me was that this may not fix the vision stuff, but I know that's why the option was presented fairly quickly.
Meds take time, there is no need to rush.
