Congrats on your pregnancy. yayy! I can completely understand your fears. However, we've had a couple of women from this forum take diamox throughout their entire pregnancy, and their babies are perfect. (one lady- I am positive of) I really hope they show up an reply. I can only imagine your fears, and if your instincts are saying "don't do it", that is very difficult to overcome. I sympathize with you. I think maybe your anxiety is operating your instincts right now. Which is completely understandable; you're concerned about your vision and your babies well being at the same time. I think- You have to make up your mind to trust your doctors know what they're doing. I don't believe they would ask you to do anything that could potentially harm your unborn child. I know they are not asking you to do anything that hasn't been done before. Another thing you might consider is that very young children take high doses of diamox daily. (not sure if that's helpful either)
I hope this helped you sort through your fears a little bit. I hope I didn't come off as lacking compassion. I truly feel your pain/fears. I have two children and I know what you're balancing in your mind right now. Our children always come first. But you must believe it is safe for your baby, and this is the only way you both will be okay. You certainly do not want to put your sight at risk. Baby needs mommy to see, so you can take good care of him/her.
I hope you can find some peace with taking this medication. Know that it is the only way to make sure you're both being taken care of. Baby will be fine.
p.s you're already a wonderful, caring mommy.
Big big hugs to you.
Betty
