hey everyone, just have a quick question, my back has been hurting (where my kindneys are), not a consant pain but it comes and goes, i also am experiencing loose stools (sorry if thats tmi) are these signs of a kidney infection? have any of you experienced a kideny infection while being on diamox? thanks for the replys ahead of time. :-)
I have had , 18 last year, 8 ,so far this year. And yes, I do believe it was the Diomax that did it.
I almost have my Urologist convinced as well. but, he is still sending me for further tests,( damm!)
For me, the symptoms are very quick and it only takes a few hours to be full blown. Symptoms are;
A dull ache in my lower abdomen, much like period pains.
Frequency.Having to go to the bathroom every 20mins.
Feeling hot and cold.
Then, lower back ache, usually on one side.
Then, after going,( peeing) it hurts after I am finished.A low down , deep ache which gets worse every time I have to use the bathroom.
Next, comes the blood in my urine. This is unmistakable. You woudnt confuse it for any thing else.
At this point I am very unwell, fever, and a lot of pain. Also very sleepy.
Before this hits, I am on the way to the dr as the longer I leave it, the harder to stop it, and not end up in hospital, which has happened.
So, altho I dont think you have a kidney infection just yet, I would go and see your dr and preempt anything coming on, especially with the holidays just around the corner.
I do know, a lot of people here have suffered from kidney stones, because of Diomax. I dont know enough about them to advise. Maybe someone who has had them will take care of that.
I have learned, to never second guess anything because of the IIH.You never know what could be going on and a trip to the drs is in order.

I take diamox to & have had the exact same problem, although it seems to be a little better one day then other days. I have had a kidney stone back in my 20s & the best way to describe it is as if you are in labor (if you haven't had that experience, it's not fun)
I got really worried when they put me on diamox this time around cuz I def don't want a stone again, so I started taking cranberry tablets & drinking lots of water, I guess it's working or I've just stopped worrying abou it so much.
I am having the pains but the drs now think I may have ra or fibro or my shunt could be doing damage.
Don't be like me & wait until it's so bad you can't even function...go see a dr, if you can afford it that is....
I can't imagine having 18 kidney stones cath, you must be one tuff cookie!

Keep up the cranberry tablets ( altho I have heard it tastes better with a splash of Vodka!) and hopefully, no more kidney stones for you. Cath
Cath, I hope I'm not headed down your road. Second kidney infection in 2 months. The pain is not as severe as a kidney stone but you're actually ill like with a low fever and then the blood in your urine.
A kidney stone is as bad as labor! I have 3 kids. I had a kidney stone before IH and the pain was so severe I vomited and cold sweats--thought - was gonna die, or wanted to die. That bad!
I have to say, since coming off Diomax they have lessened. I am loathe to go back on it again with I fear I will after my eye exam in Jan.
Make sure, you have a filled antib in the house for over Christmas. Most drs are very understanding about this. You have to act very quickly, to stop the infection really setting in.
I am not too sure if cranberry juice works for kidney infections as more for UTIs. I cant drink it when I am sick. My stomach is not good when I have this infection. I tend to drink warm water, gallons of it. Flush out as much of the bug as you can.
