Diagnosis requires brain scans and lumbar puncture. Characteristic symptoms are headache, transient visual obscurations or transient visual loss in one or both eyes usually lasting...
I have had my lp shunt for almost four weeks now. I don't have orthostatic hyperstension but I am starting to have double vision which I have never had before. Before the shunt I did have flashing lights in my vision and shooting stars. I have been very lucky for my eye sight. Now that I have the shunt, that is supposed to help me, I am having the double vision. Seriously?!?
What is your dr. saying to you? Everytime I talk to my NS he tells me to keep staying down and that I still need to heal. He also tells me that it is still too soon to do anything about it. I didn't realize the recovery from the sugery would be soo difficult. I guess I was kidding myself. Let me know what you find out. Good luck. I hope it gets better for you!
take care

my NS didn't know why i was having b/p issues after this last surgery. Since it was a programmable LP shunt the recovery was easier than the reg. LP shunt. but yes, the recovery was hard for me but then again I have a lot of other medical stuff. I also didn't know that recovery is diff for each person and that my first NS wouldn't even think of doing anything until at least 6 weeks past my surgery dates. It was so frustrating, I know how you feel.
I wonder why you are having the double vision? I'm not sure if that is part of the healing process or if your pressure is still too high, did your NS say anything about that?
I hope you start to feel better soon and your vision clears up, Blessings, Jazz
Never even heard of that before. Only thig I have to ask is that I recall you had a few shunt adjustments. How long in between adjustments I don't remember but is it possible that your body had not totally adjusted to your shunt adjustment before you adjusted again? does that make any sense? Could you have gone to far?
TJ
I've actually only had one adjustment since my last surgery but I have to go back since I'm at 6 1/2 hours before the low pressure headaches come back.
My husband reminded me that I've basically been on bed rest for over 6 months, since I couldn't get up much from the over-shunting. I started wearing compression socks that have helped some.
I was searching for answers and also saw that orthostatic hypotension is now related to spinal fluid leaks. I wonder if all those months of over shunting, which def. mimics a leak, is adding to the problem.
Hope you are feeling well and thanks for helping, Jazz
