I get most of my HA at the back of my skull and around my ears too. It's not fun stuff. Your DR. needs to know that you get the nausea and about the HA...hopefully you've told him.
I saw my first neuro last month and told him about the pain behind my ears and he shrugged and said that isn't a symptom. Yet since my first LP I haven't had the pain...go figure huh? So I have another appt with another neuro next week.
Hope today is a good day for you!

I put an ice pack on the back of my neck and that seems to help some .
I have had HORRID headaches with this. On what starts with the Left side of my head, then works to the back, right side, and stays there. It does get so bad sometimes, that it is excruciating. I just recently went to the full dosage of the generic version of Topomax recently 200mg since nothing was really doing it for me. Still comes back during the day time, but I only started that on Wednesday.
Hope yours get better. I have had it not necessary in the same spot, but close to it....
Mine must be due to that, cause when I try to lie down to get some rest some times I can't sleep because of it....that answers that portion....:(

Twilight- I am like you not found a med yet to help.
I see them next week. Hopefully a new migraine med will work.

When they are that bad, I try to stay as still as possible. Some times I will get stiff from sitting like a statue for so long.
If I take the OPANA as soon as I feel my headache coming on it brings the pain down form a 9 or 10 to a 3 or 4.
I have to take phenergan before the OPANA in order to tolerate it.
I'm very happy to say it doesn't hurt like that any more. Don't get me wrong, I still have a headache all the time... it's just not that bad anymore.
Hang in there
