Hi Greenbay, I don't have a VP shunt so I'm not sure why you would see that or if it is just normal. The only thing I can think of is to call your NS. I hope you are able to sleep tonight, like my friend always tells me, worrying won't change anything, just make you feel worse and it is wasted energy (easier said than done, beleive me I know, lol). I agree with Jazzy - call your NS, just to be safe. I know my shunt and tubing seem to shift around quite a bit too - in fact when I sleep on my right side, it always takes a few minutes to get comfortable because I feel the shunt shifting around in my head, which grosses me out to no end! I've also been wondering how normal that is. The bump on my head from the shunt is also VERY prominent these days, which I hate (LOL, remember only a week or so ago I didn't think I had a bump at all?!). That said, I only get the stiff feeling in my neck (from the tubing) when I'm turning my head in certain ways and I've read that that is normal.

I can't speak to the VP shunt/tubing as I have no personal experience. But I just wanted to let you know that I care, that I'm thinking about you, and I hope you get an answer ASAP that puts your mind at rest. Let us know what your neuro says!

What did your NS say? I must admit my curiosity is getting the best of me, although, I truly hope you are sleeping comfortably right now with the knowledge that you are okay. Hope all is well.

Well, I called the NS yesterday and spoke with the nurse and she wasn't too alarmed by it. She said that it may be "bulging" due to me losing some weight after surgery. I have an appt on Monday, so hopefully, I will find out for sure then. Thanks for all your replies :) I totally appreciate it!

I hope you got some sleep and are feeling less grossed out.

I haven't been able to see my tubing as much as it sounds like you are seeing - but I am in the fluffy & chubby club so it is under my protective layer of chubbiness. I can feel it move around and I can feel it through my skin. I am going to have a gastric bypass as soon as the damn insurance companies sort out the mess and my NS warned me that I may be able to see the tube more after that. Your weight loss may be why you are noticing it more now.

It still grosses me out when it moves but I am getting used to it. I am a new party trick to little kids trying to feel the tube and rub my head bump. It hurts when it moves across my chest, but the rest of the moving is just annoying. Keep us posted on what your NS says.

I have a VP shunt and had a similair experience when my shunt was new and several times since then. My NS said my shunt is tight and that there is extra tubing in my abdomen that can be pulled up to make it looser. I do this my by turning my head toward the side my shunt is in and looking up. You have to hold this position for a about 30 sec but should feel it give. If you shunt is new this may be painful and you may want to wait a week or so to let it heal. My NS said not to worry that I couldn't break it by doing this. Somedays it feels so tight it might snap. Hope this helps.
