A week ago I had my first round of botox injections (31) to treat what my neurologist and neurosurgeon are calling chronic migraines, because according to my shunt my pressure is normal. I have not had any relief yet. I'm also on 400 mg of topamax which is really taking its toll on me side effect wise. I'm still hold in out hope that the botox so help, but wondering if anyone else has had any luck?

Sorry. I had Botox and it made my headaches much worse. My headaches had become a 10 for over a month. It took prednisone to finally get things under control. Prednisone is so NOT recommended. It works like magic but it's really, really bad for your body. My theory is that my body reacted to the botox and swelled up, including my brain. Whatever happens I won't be repeating it again.

i did botox for almost 2 yrs. some rounds helped others didnt. dont think i am getting anymore rounds thank god those shots hurt like a sob

1. WAY WAY to much Topamax, I've been on that high of a dose and I hated the side effects. Ask a different neurologist about the proper dosage for topamax. When reading your post I had to look twice because like you I just started getting botox treatments about 3 months ago for chronic headache due to PTC, My doc said that it typically takes a few rounds of treatment for any prolonged relief but I have noticed some relief my self and compared to all the narcotics I prefer the botox but everyone is different, I wish you the best of luck Nicole.

I too was just told to get a round of botox starting next month. I was told and I quote "40% of women have headaches you probably fall in that category, and some people have IIH and have no pain, some people get cured, If you don't get relief by increasing your Diamox we will insert a shunt if your pain doesn't go away" ... I also have only been given and taken Tylenol and Motrin which dont work for shit against these headaches and constant head pain. No narcotics were ever prescribed to me, but their (Army doctors) telling me keep taking the Tylenol that doesn't work because" its good to keep it in your system"!!! I wish you all the luck with Botox. I hope it works to relieve some pain ... but my guess is that the doctors are just taking a shot in the dark because it helps some people with regular headaches but doesn't seem to work for the majority of ladies and gentlemen in our group very much. Do you feel any better now that the Botox had some days to settle in?

I've had botox injections (neck, base of skull) a few times and found the result helpful. Along with other meds, I take 700mg of Topamax, which helps with the head pain although, as often mentioned, there are side affects to deal with. I've had good result with radio frequency as well, although the pain after the procedure is horrific (next time I'm going to use my "ice belt" received during my last back surgery -- and wish I had thought of this prior).
