Hi all.  I have just been diagnosed with prostate cancer with a gleason score of 7.  I opted to have my prostate remove since there is quite a bit of cancer in my family.


I hear about the different stages 1-4 but am confused about what stage does a gleason score fall in.



Any help will be apprecated.

Gleason score defines how agressive your cancer is . It is used by the doctors to decide on what treatment you need . You may ask me questions in the future - -I have very advanced cancer , and have been dealing with it for a very long time. Sending you healing thoughts .

I went a week after the surgery with a catheter in. When they took it out I leaked a log (expected) but did not have an urge to urinate. They put the cath back in and Tuesday it will be removed. If I still can't urinate is self cathing a reasonable option until I can? I am going to put it to the doctor / nurse when I go in. I am on medicare and have a good supplement insurance so cost is not an issue. Any advice can and will be appreciated.

I was too weak for any surgery when diagnosed. My heart had failed and I was attempting to get a heart transplant . Had worked with the transplant team at a major hospital for about 4 to 6 months when i was diagnosed with prostate cancer ( PC ). So I got 45 days of radiation instead of surgery. Seemed logical at the time. am at 13 years now and getting ready for a second round of chemo. Am in big trouble.

I would love to correspond here with you . do not really know how - -so be gentle with me. I will try to give you as much wisdom as I am able.
