I have no idea how old your father is, or what kind of health he is in otherwise. Both those factors will have a big impact on his options.
If indeed his cancer is very early and very small, the options are more varied than if it were in later stages.
One option that's quite recent - Avodart treatment. While it was originally developed for treating BPH, it was discovered a 'side effect' was starving the prostate cancer cells - quite literally. It's worked great for me. I was diagnosed with early stage 2, Gleason score 6 cancer 18 months ago. Most recent biopsy - 'no sign of active malignancy'. Best news I've ever gotten.
