Ex Husband has been diagnosed

Hello All


I am new to this group. My ex husband has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. We have seemed too remain somewhat friendly throughout a bitter breakup. I am devestated about the news, and really looking for somme support from people, who can help me through this. I plan on being there for him as much as he needs. I am terrified.... as so is he. We have 5 children. Our youngest is 17.... Any advice would be so helpful!!!

Prostate Cancer is not a death sentence. I had it and had surgery (Radical Prostatectomy) which is no picnic but you get through it quickly. I have jokingly called it "Cancer Lite."

The biggest repercussions of the surgery are incontinence and ED. If he does Kegels, he'll have a big problem for about two weeks and then, if it's like mine be much better for about six weeks. You can save him money by talking him out of those expensive "diapers" and buying him a box of 200 lite women's pads and telling him to throw away the bias and use those. I was totally fine after two months.

For ED, he must be proactive, as the medical profession doesn't seem to offer a lot of help. You're pretty much on your own. Have him get a Vacuum Erection Device as soon as possible so as to allow the penile tissue stay healthy until the nerves (hopefully) heal. Getting a DiVinci robotic surgery is also a good idea, as it is more accurate.

I could fill up a book with other advice, but have him get in touch with a urologist ASAP.

Whatever you do, do not be terrified. It's a total pain in regards to sexual health, but it is anything but a life-or-death situation if you act quickly.
