Hi everyone, I just joined this group so that I could ask you all a question. I have hypothyroidism and starting almost two months ago I started to have contractions like when being pregnant. It mostly comes soon after I have taken my levothyroxine (thyroid medicine). Has anyone here every hear of such a thing? Oh, I am not pregnant. I tried to ask on the thyroid group but no one every responded. I have been to doctors and they haven't a clue. (they actually don't believe me. and say that everything is normal) I don't know what to think anymore or if there is someone that can actually help me.

I have not heard of such a thing. Sound most likely that you are having side effects to your medication. I would have them change your medication this one is not working for you.

I did have my medicine changed but it made the contractions worse. That's why I am trying to ask around to other groups to see if anyone else has had the same happen to them. The only thing I could find on the internet was about rats with the same problem.

I had a allergy doctor that was wonderful because he believed in listening to his patients. He use to say people can be allergic to any thing and or have any kind of symptom to a medication. Does it happen every time you take your medication? You might try a journal and right down everything and see if there is a pattern.

I have been on thyroid medicines for almost three years, but the contractions just started in March. I had contractions five years ago also and wasn't on any medicines at that time. They only lasted less than a month. It is just frustrating me.

They may need to take a closer look at your female organs.

Hey Apple,

Thanks for all of the suggestions. My high risk ob/gyn was the first doctor I called. He check my blood, and my female organs, and found nothing wrong.

NinjaMother...sorry with your struggles in searching for help, it can be especially frustrating when doctors don't believe you. I personally haven't heard of having contractions when taking medications. I'm also not too familiar, tho, with levothyroxine. Sorry again, I hope that you can find answers soon. :)
