I have SP and my neuro gives me rituxin. and I love it.

I was just reading up on it. . .what I read made it sound that it wasn't approved for MS. (There is a random glitch about the patent about to expire, so they aren't moving to phase 3 trials.) How are you getting it and what does it do for you?

I also have spms and have done ritaxin also it is a rumi. Arthritis (sp) drug kills b blood cells when they come back they should b healthy. I have only done 2 infusions and not yet this yr bc I am on Medicaid that's my story and I am sticking to it stay strong Chuck

I am in a clinical trial ( 3rd phase) for an oral drug for SPMS! My first dose is next week. I will let you know how it goes. It is made by Novartis, the maker of Gileneya for RRMS.

How is this going?

I am doing okay! Don't know I'd I am on the real drug or the placebo! I have a little more energy but that could just be in my mind. Lol! I have been able to go out of the house after 3:00pm. Usually I am spent! I was able to walk up the stairs like a normal person instead of pulling my self up the stairs.

I go back in November to see all of the Doctors. I will let everyone know what they have to say! Thank you for asking! No one here does! : (

Wow, I would LOVE to get up the stairs normally. I have resorted to flipping my cane upside down and pulling up my left leg with my arms. . . have no choice but adapt!

I have to pull my self up the stairs via the railing.

I have SPMS with relapses. I was given a chemo drug and it worked very well. I went from being paralyzed from the chest down and being considered to going on a respirator to help me breathe. The drug worked very quickly. It can have some bad side effects to the heart and I already have heart problems so I opted for only three treatment. I had a good couple of years but I'm going downhill again. I know if I get very bad I could opt for a few more treatment. I will attach some information I found on on Web M.D.

How It Works

Mitoxantrone is an immunosuppressant, a type of medicine that reduces the activity of the immune system. It has been used to treat leukemia and some advanced prostate cancer. Multiple sclerosis (MS) appears to be a disease in which the immune system attacks the covering of the nerve fibers (myelin sheath) within the brain and spinal cord, so immunosuppressants may slow the progression of the disease. Immunosuppressants other than mitoxantrone, though, have not been shown to significantly reduce the progression of MS or the frequency of relapses.

Mitoxantrone may be injected once every 3 months for up to 3 years. A higher total dose increases the risk of serious heart damage.
Why It Is Used

Mitoxantrone is used to treat several forms of worsening MS, including secondary progressive MS, progressive relapsing MS, and advanced relapsing-remitting MS.

Mitoxantrone is one of only two medicines that have been shown to benefit people who have secondary progressive MS that is relapsing. The interferon beta medicine Betaseron is the other. Interferon beta will likely remain the first choice for treating secondary progressive MS, because it does not carry the risk of heart damage associated with mitoxantrone. Mitoxantrone may be tried if you develop severe side effects from interferon beta, cannot take the medicine for some other reason, or continue to have active disease.
How Well It Works

Mitoxantrone reduces the frequency of relapses and helps slow the development of disability in people who have secondary progressive MS that is relapsing or advanced relapsing-remitting MS. Some studies have shown that when mitoxantrone is combined with other drugs such as intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) or interferon beta, the rate of new MS lesions in the brain has been reduced.
