My husband is addicted to prescription pain pills. He has been for years. Sometimes he admits he has a problem and talks about getting clean. Most of the time he makes excuses that he still needs them because of his pain. And that he does not have a problem like others in his family have had, since he is not taking handfulls at a time and is not selling off everything that we own. He does not see how ill he looks in photos, or face that his health concerns are directly related to his pill usage. He's never violent, but he is so impatient with me and our son, and quite frankly, talks to us like shit a lot of the time. He can be so demeaning and condencending. Any time I try to talk to him, he turns it around on me. Makes me feel like I'm crazy. Comapares his pill usage as the same as me needing anxiety medication or smoking marijuana. He smokes marijuana too. My marijuana usage ehlps with my pain and has kept me off of my antidepressant, sleeping medication, and my anxiety medication, most of the time. I generally only have to take it for break though anxiety attacks. He makes excuses for his behavior. Says our son needs more dicipline and I'm too soft on him, and that I knew how he was when we got married, so that his constant shit talking should not bother me and that I'm too sensetive. Joking around and teasing each other is one thing, but a constant tone of impatience, negativity and me being the subject of his constant roasting, I am just over it. And he was never that way with me untill about 2.5 years into our relationship. The pills first came into the picture about a year and a half into our relationship. By then, we were already married and had our son (both planned). I am not the only one close to him that is concerned or has said anything to him. Both his mom and brother are ex addicts, so they know the signs. I feel so lost. I know my only 2 options are to leave or to stay, and neither sounds like the right choice.

So mad at Xfinity! They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today! Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...

Every addict does this. It's like saying, "You are to blame for the dis-ease that I feel!"
I remember I ended up in the hospital with renal failure due to my addiction to pain pills. I almost died yet that did not stop me because my addiction had taken over my thinking processes. The only way I would get help was when my wife filed for divorce. Plus, I lost my job and had financial problems so I had hit my "low" which happened about a year after I spent 3 days in the hospital, Recovery was a long road for me. detox followed by outpatient treatment followed by 3 months of counseling, followed by many aa and na meetings. That was 12 years ago. Now I have a great life and I have never been happier.
It's not likely your husband will get any better, because he is not motivated to change. When he hit's his low, like I did, he will
You see what the narcotics are doing to him, but look at what his addiction is doing to YOU! You need alot of support for yourself and alanon, and/or naranon, are great places to find that support that you so desparately need.
