I understand how you feel. It's scary and hard to have a child in the NICU. But they really are amazing, and they will take execellent care of your boys. I struggled for 4 years with IF and got pregnant with my first IVF with a boy (white male). I went into premature labor at 31 weeks and had to have an emergency c -section. He was in the NICU for 3 and 1/2 weeks. He is 9 months old now, and doing GREAT! He is caught up on the growth charts and has no problems. It will be a tough few weeks, but you will get thru this!

Hi love. My son was a 25 week preemie (we lost his twin during the pregnancy) he weighed 1.6 pounds and had a very rough ride in NICU.... spent weeks on the HFOV with nitric oxide and surfactant treatment before graduating to CPAP. He barely got off that before coming home, so don't stress your boys are doing really well!!!!! We spent 3 1/2 months in NICU all up. The Lord has blessed us greatly with our son. Oh forgot to add, there are lots of things you can do to help with the bonding! Don't worry if they feel like hospital property and not your sons yet... my girl was a (just) term baby and I was home hours after a natural birth. My son was an emergency vertical cut caesarean and I only stayed one night (my girl was then only 11 months old) When you get home, it will be so different without the doctors and nurses caring for your bubs, but you will get to know how to be a mum and not a NICU mum anymore! Things like wearing them in a sling really help to promote the right hormones for bonding and to settle preemies too xx

I also went into premature labor with my daughter at only 28 weeks and it was an emotional rollercoaster believe me there were days that were just back but days were any mildstone was a great moment for my husband and i. my daughter was born at only 2 pounds and 9 ounces and dropped to 2 pounds 2 ounces she was in the nicu for 7 weeks and even tho it was a rough experience i took it the best way i could and stayed positive everyone was so helpful and generous in the NICU it really became a second family to us. i hope your boys are in good health and really everything will be okay. my daughter is now 4 months and she is so smart and alert to everything. they said to not expect things but there real age and go by the due date but shes doing what a 4 month old would do already. i wish you and your family the best.

On the CPAP!!! On .2 oxygen!!!??? That's WONDERFUL! Truly, that is great news. I know it doesn't sound like it to you right now, and I know that those darn CPAP's mess up their little faces and smush their noses up, but they are doing really well. And above 2 lbs is another great thing.

My twin BOYS were born at 24 weeks..check out these stats:

Quinn: 1 lb 14 oz 12 " long on 10/25/09 (Due date 02/10/10)
10 surgeries, currently has a feeding tube, tho that might be gone soon!
NOW: 18 lbs, 27", standing, taking steps, babbling, and getting into lots and lots of trouble. And don't even get me started on pulling his brother's hair, taking him down, and chasing the cat's tail.

Mason: 1 lb 9 oz 11" long
On the jet ventilator 4 long weeks, so couldn't hold him til off. Lots of up and downs, other stuff, came home on oxygen.
NOW: 21 lbs, 29 " tall..walking all over the place, demanding everything, got lots of teeth, plays the piano pretty darn well (REALLY!) and also enjoys tormenting the cats. He recently called his Daddy "Joel".

The rollercoaster is terrible. We were given 50/50 chance.

Everyone is right! Your boys are doing great. Our son (white male) was born at 28+6 via emergency c-section. He was on the cpap for 2 weeks and was finally weaned off. Luckily I had steroid shots for his lungs which I'm sure helped. He spent exactly 5 weeks, and even though he was doing very well I was still out of my mind with worry. Just know that the Dr's are going to do everything they can for your boys. If you have ANY questions ask. You are your boys' advocate and the main carer for them. As for bonding, we did alot of kangarookare. That is skin to skin. It was great and really helped my milk supply. It was so important for me to hold DS because I felt so out of control. If you feel anxious or overwhelmed talk to the nursing staff they should have a counselor on staff that can really help you, even if that person just listens. Good luck! You can do it!

Take it day by day. enjoy even the small pleasures, like them squeezing your hand, or you getting to hold them. dont be afraid to ask anything.
