I know how you feel... Im 30 weeks 4 days pregnant and i still have not managed to quite smoking. when i found out i was pregnant(I was only 4 weeks in) I managed to cut down from a pack a day to 5 a day until i hit about 5 1/2 months... Now im smoking about 15 a day and i dont even know why i went up i think its cause of the hormone surges in my system and its killing me emotionaly because i always promised myself that when i got pregnant i would quit smoking... I dont know how to quit but my doctor also told me not to quit. She told me to cut down as much as possible but to try & quit while pregnant puts too much stress on the baby because its a big change to your body. My baby is healthy and is at least a week ahead in development. Im now trying to figure out how to cut back down again... I wish you the best of luck with your pregnancy & if you find a way to cut down more or even quit please let me know cause i could use the help.

I'll start off by saying that I don't smoke. But, if I did and I was pregnant I would want to stop asap. I would probably talk to my doctor who might refer a specialist who could help me through it.

Have either of you gone for an ultrasound. Maybe you could put the ultrasound picture on you cigarette pack and every time you go to get a cigarette you will see the picture and it will make you think twice before you light up. I had a very hard time quitting but I resolved that I would do it by a certain time and the ultrasound picture really helped me.

I forgot to say that I also started hanging out with people that dont smoke because it made it easier for me to not smoke if nobody around me was smoking.

Good for you for taking this step and wanting to quit. My husband quit when we found out we were pregnant (I am not a smoker) and it was incredibly difficult for him. He changed his habits, found different ways to drive to work (he said certain places triggered the need for a cigarette) and had the support from a close friend who decided to quit with him. My husband and his friend began hanging out at different places, doing different projects and pretty much it became a competition to see who would be stronger at quiting.

I wish you both luck at quitting. Perhaps talking to your doctor about the best way to quit would help. Each person is different and the success of quitting will depend on the route you take.

I quit smoking cold turkey with both my pregnancies. I just found other things to do...spend more time on the computer, watch t.v., exercise, write love letters to my husband, shop...and I always avoided the things that made me want too...talking on the phone driving (when I had to do those things I would chew gum). I know its a hard thing to do but weight it out...your child's long term health or your bad habit. My sister didn't quit smoking and her son is always sick, ear infections, fevers, I believe it does compromise the immune system...and my friend didn't quit and both of her kids have asthma....So just weight it out....Its important to take care of you as well. And lets face it we all know smoking isn't good for us....And it is okay to quit early in pregnancy it doesn't put the stress on the baby. Though later it does. So it prime for you to stop now.

Not smoking has been the most difficult thing of my whole pregnancy thus far. I did the same thing, said I would stop smoking when I became pregnant and even talked down about any woman I saw smoking when she was obviosly pregnant. Now, I am struggling and eating my own words. I smoked a pack a day and now at 18 weeks am not smoking more than 4 a day but it kills me to think I could be harming this blessing inside me. I feel so weak and selfish. I hide it from my husband because it breaks his heart. Had no idea I was really this addicted. I think part of it is because I don't have much social support, live in a new area. I am doing the best I can without having terrible anxiety and as I pray that God will protect my baby from my selfishness that He will also help me be free from this 15 year habit.

To all of you who quit before or when you found out you were pregnant, that's awesome and I envy you. I am searching for my own inner strength to be the very best mom I can be, starting now.

Hi. I am a non smoker, but a friend of mine who is a smoker was told by her doctor when she was pregnant that she needed to quit asap. I know it's hard but just try to tell yourself that smoking is not good for your baby. Some might tell you that they smoked and their baby is now fine, but I'm sure you don't want to take that chance. Maybe you can speak with your doctor. Perhaps, the quit smoking gums might work for you. Good luck, I know you can do it!!!

i am also still smoking. I have cut down alot. I asked for something to help me quit and the Dr isnt comfortable with me doing anything, gum, patches, pills ect. She is happy with how hard I am trying to quit and she just tells me to keep trying to cut down. I actually didnt smoke one whole day, the day of my ultrasound. when I had my ultrasound the baby was in a "stressful" postion the Dr asked what I had been doing differant, the only thing was i hadnt smoked all day, and i was very stressed. She said I cant go cold turkey it stresses me and the baby out to much. So I am back to just doing the best I can, little by little, baby steps! I have also noticed the more I think I have to quit smoking the more it makes me smoke. So i try not to be to hard on myself.
