I am 23 years old and 27 weeks pregnant with my first. My boyfriend and I have only been together for a little over a year and did not plan on having children anytime soon. Especially him who didn't want children until much, much later in life. Regardless I know this baby's life was meant to be and I'm so honored and happy to carry life inside of me. When I told my boyfriend, he was upset, but said not to worry, he would "handle his responsibility ." He's saved up money for the baby, and that's all great, but emotionally, he just has not been there at all.
During my first trimester I was so sick all day everyday, I would come home from work and go straight to bed. I didn't even have the energy to cook, not that I could hold anything down anyway. I live alone and I really wanted my boyfriend to be there for me. I tried to explain to him what I was going through sooo many times and he'd say things like,"that doesn't make sense, how could you be sick everyday?" OR "can't be that bad." And when I brought up him being there more often for me, it would only end up with him getting defensive and us arguing all the time. He'd say, "I don't see what me being there is going to do." He lived 2 hours away and before I was pregnant , would come see me all the time but then he said he was too busy with work. Which is understandable, but he didn't even act like he wanted to see me or help out. As sick as I was and explained to him, he never even asked how I was doing, and even called me lazy for sleeping all the time. I was completely alone with no help. All the sleepless nights and multiple trips to the bathroom throwing up. I know many women have gone through the same thing or worse, so it just sounds like immature complaints, but it was the worst time of my life.
Now I am in my 3rd trimester and my boyfriend is just 20 minutes away finishing up his last year of college. I'm not sick like I was in my first trimester thank god, but as I get closer to my due date, I'm more scared and anxious about motherhood. I would love to talk about this with my boyfriend but even though he's much closer, I still hardly see him! He has school during the week so the only time he can see me is during the weekends. But even when he has the chance, he's out partying with his friends. He comes to see me every other weekend or so, I always wind up cooking for him without so much as a thank you. I even gave him a massage because his muscles were sore, but when I mention my lower back pains, he just changes the subject. When he does come to see me, he pays more attention to his phone than me. He's never really acknowledged the fact that I'm pregnant. When I cry to him about this and feel like a fool doing so, the look on his face is as if he's so annoyed with me. I talked to him begging him to communicate better with me and he didn't give me any feedback at all. He just stared at me with the same annoyed face and when I asked if he had anything to say, he said "what do you want me to say?"
I just feel so lonely and hurt because I wanted this experience to be the best time of my life. I wanted my partner to be interested in the whole process and at the very least, emotionally supportive and there for me. He tells me he loves me and even when I tell him this isn't working, he tells me he wants to be with me. But he'd much rather be at a party with his friends than to be here with me when I need him most. I don't think we're ever going to be on the same page and maybe I should break up with him, but he's the father of my baby girl. Everyone says not to make such a big decision at this time, but I'm just so unhappy and lonely, I just don't know what to do.
