I do not have an incompetent cervix but have had these pains throughout my pregnancy....I think it is just the pressure of everything growing inside, plus it gets worse once baby decides to bounce on it!! I wouldn't stress too much so long as you don't have any associated abdominal cramping or bleeding you should be fine.

Dont worry yourself too much, we all have pains during pregnancy, but dont ignore things either. I had an incompetant cervix that led to a still birth at 6 months. I then had a successful pregnancy with the help of a circlage. I felt sharp poking pains in my cervix and a great deal of fatigue with contractions before the miscarriage. If you have incompetant cervix, your cervix will dialate from the inside out, they call it "funneling" . You can have this checked with a vaginal ultrasound. A physical vaginal exam by your Dr. will not show anything since the cervix might not be changing on the outside yet. From the information that I gathered, it is unlikely that your funneling would start yet, because the weight of the baby is not too great at this stage. The funneling is caused by weight and pressure that the cervix is too weak to withstand. if you are determined by your Dr. to have i c, they will usually perform a circlage at 20 wks, before the baby starts getting heavy. Like Rc1 said, it is totally normal to have pains down there during pregnancy so dont worry yourself, but also tell your dr your concerns and have them addressed. Also, one thing that no one ever mentions is that you are far more likely to have an incompitant cervix if you have been diagnosed with HPV or have had a biopsy for cervical cancer, or a procedure to remove pre cancerous cells of the cervix. You are already a good mother worrying about your pregnancy so! The thing is that if you google pains in cervix, ic will come up and it is more uncommen than commen. all pregnant women have pains, and very few have ic. Everything will be fine- just mention it to your Dr. and take it easy when you feel tired. Love that baby!!

If you are worried about an incompetent cervix tell your doctor u would like to have a cerclage, where they sow your cervix.
