Also, my aunt got me whats called "preggie pops"...you can find them usually at pharmacies and nutrition stores. I kept them in my purse always and when I felt it coming on- I poped it into my mouth until I could get something substantial in my stomach to make it go away...Probably similar concept to the candies.
One more thing...you mentioned smells. Smells still get to me a lot and especailly during my first trimester...and I work with food,so the smells in the kitchen were horrible. So I took a "bounce dryer sheets" and kept it with me and when a smell was getting to me- I smelled the bounce sheet instead, until I could remove the smell or myslef from the sittuation:) (I guess -just find whatever smell you like that is appealing...dosnt have to be bounce sheets- just found that convienent:)
Good luck!
To answer your question about seabands, you can find them pretty much anywhere- pharmacy or maybe even supermarket. THey're usually used for motion sickness like if you're going to be traveling or on a cruise.
Here is there website
http://www.sea-band.com/seaband.htm
The Sea-Band has been clinically tested against nausea and vomiting in travel, pregnancy, anaesthesia, chemotherapy and all conditions which induce nausea.
The Sea-Band is a knitted elasticated wrist band, which operates by applying pressure on the Nei Kuan acupressure point on each wrist by means of a plastic stud. Because the bands do not use drugs, they do not cause any of the side effects associated with anti-nausea drugs and can be worn on each wrist whenever you feel nauseous. They are suitable for adults and children.
The Sea-Band may be washed up to five times with a mild detergent in warm water without losing its elasticity.
The Sea-Band is sold in drug chains and pharmacies across the world. Some of our customers include:
In USA :
K-Mart, Brooks, Meijers, Kerr Drug, Happy Harry's, Stop&Shop, Eckerd, Longs, Osco, Rite Aid, Savon, CVS, Walgreens and Walmart.
A lot of people find that increasing protein helps. So peanut butter crackers rather than plain crackers.
Also things that did or didn't work last time may have the opposite effect this time. At least that's what I'm finding!
I get through my teaching by chewing peppermint gum and drinking regular cokes very slowly. Too fast and the carbonation makes me throw up. So it literally takes me hours to drink a coke. (much less caffeine than a cup of coffee) I think the peppermint gum blocks smells for me. I use stride sweet peppermint because the flavor lasts so long.
Dill pickle chips and anything sour worked with my first. Corn chips with cheese dip and lemonade with my second. With this one I have been on all three prescriptions at some point. I'm now at the point where I just deal with throwing up a couple of times a day. At least I'm down from 6 times a day!
Oh Gatorade seems to help too. I think it's the salt content (like crackers, chips, etc) I also have a recipe for ginger limeade. I saw one of my students who was queasy from a prescription (not pregnant) salting a lemon and sucking on it. All I can say is that I was standing next to her to smell the lemon b/c that helped! One of my former students who is now in nursing school said she heard dark chocolate was good too.
The thing is you are going to hear 1001 suggestions from everyone who has ever been or ever known a pregnant woman and hopefully you will find one that works for you!
