I just wanted to hear any thoughts on the flu shot while pregnant. Here in Australia it's is recommended over winter and all REs say it safe. I am not to sure about it and have read pros and cons for both sides. I have only ever had one once before and have never really liked the thought of them. I have heard of women becoming Ill after them and having reactions from them in general and think that's what could be putting me off. We are told not to take anything during pregnacy but that this is ok sounds odd to me???

Any feed back on the topic would be very much appreciated.

Hey! I HAD to get one...it is mandatory at my work - I was not pregnant at the time, but being treated as I was (was during my failed fresh IVF). I was told by all docs, OBs, and RE that it was totally safe. Honestly, I wouldn't get it unless forced, but that is just me. I'm not a huge fan of the flu shot - but again, my opinion. Safety wise, I think you're fine to get it if you want to

Thanks Keepsmiling for te reply they do offer them at my work to however I declined at the time as I just dont like them myself either. I just dont like the thought of that stuff being injected into my body. I know in my job workin with 2-3 yr olds the colds are more common but if I keep up my vitamins keep good hygiene which is policy anyway and just be more aware I figure i should be ok.

I get my flu shot every year. It is especially important to get it while pregnant to prevent getting to sick with a baby on board. If you do get the flu there is a chance of dehydration and you could be hospitalized. The flu shot doesn't actually make you sick, but I know how you feel my husband never gets one. My daughter and I do get one every year and now that I'm pregnant again and due in the flu season, every one in the house and that wants to see the baby has to have one but that's just me. Thanks for your thoughts I totally agree with it after to protect a new born but just fear it before and it goes through your body and I just have this thing built into my head to steer clear of medications. I think it's just hard to break that fear if your not a flu shot follower when pregnant. Thanks
