well the most annoying advice i got wasn't about pregnancy it was about my two year old.

I mentioned i was going to try and pump milk for her.

my MIL thought it would be taking it from the baby and said i should try to wean her from the almond milk onto cows milk (despite her intolerance to it...) felt like i was just bi@ch slapped.

If the hot sauce one was true, then my son should be blind lol. I craved hot spicy things with him all the time. Also with my son, he was breech and the only way I could get comfortable sometimes was to have my arms above me head, he never had the cord anywhere near his neck.

I learnt after my first one that you just take on what they've said and do what you think is best for your baby, because that is what is the right way.

the arm above the head seems to be the most common one that many of us have heard. unfortunately, it is difficult to heed such advice when your baby's foot or hand is caught in your ribs!

trust me, i have received so much advice that i am tired of trying to explain my point of view. it kills me and makes my blood boil because u will always find someone who insists that their advice is the only one u should follow....like they've read numerous studies or work in the medical field! i'm currently 40 weeks, waiting for my baby to arrive and just now i have learned to calm down when i get unsolicited advice! good luck!

having just moved over here from the Infertility board (yay) I can tell ya we've had this similar conversation there, about all the unsolicited "here's how to get pg" advice! OYE!!! Like people dont care that you have blocked tubes, or pcos, or this or that...they just think if you follow THEIR advice, it will work....uh NO. We all found that if you tell them, "Thanks, that's interesting, but I am going to go with the advice from my RE/Dr/Medical professional instead. I really trust their experience and knowledge." That seems to shut a lot of people up :) I live near my DH family, great aunt, MIL, aunts out the wazoo, grandmother...so i am SURE we're gonna hear LOTS of it...i'm gearing up my Comeback's now!!!

I am so surprised that with my huge family, I haven't heard too much in regards to superstitions. But, come to think of it, my aunt told me the other day that my grandma always said if you stretch too much the cord will go around the baby's neck.
And the weirdest superstition (from my Grandma, R.I.P.) is that pregnant women should wear a key on a safety pin on their bellies to protect baby from deformities that can be caused by eclipses and the moon......?? anyone ever hear THAT one before? I wore my key for a while but then kept forgetting.

OK the key one wins. My favorite - if you're carrying high it's a boy, if you're carrying low its' a girl (or is it the other way around)

My grandmother, who lived to be 99 3/4, told me that when she worked as a telephone operator in the 20s the supervisor wouldn't allow a woman to work past her 5th month. They had to plug in the telephone cords for each call, which required stretching across a 4' wide board, plus 2' of the boards on either side (8' total). Apparently she had had a woman work until near her delivery time, and the baby was stillborn, with the cord around the neck. They thought it was from all that reaching and stretching.

i like, "oh, youre not carrying right for it to be a boy and you're big. are you sure you're not having twins?"
#1- we've had 3 u/s, it's only one.
#2- if it's a girl, we have some problems because she either has a third "appendage" or she's a hermie.

I get the, well you never know it might be twins! I am pretty sure it is not! I only had one frozen emby put back and yes it could split but I have had 6 ultrasounds so I am pretty sure if I were having more than one we would know it!

The high/low comment made me laugh. I am carrying twins extremely high and they are both girls. So.. That advice is clearly wrong.

I really hope #s 2 and 3 arent true. I've taken to sleeping with my arms up by my head and take a water bottle with me everywhere I go!
