Hi ladies! I havent been on here in a LONG time but I know when I have a question I will get good feedback here.

I am 31 weeks pregnant with a boy--my first. On Friday I started noticing what I believed to be Braxton Hicks contractions but they were coming about 6-9 an hour.

So I went to the hospital and luckily everything was fine. However the midwife mentioned that my cervix is soft and closed. Isn't it supposed to be firm and closed? I asked him but I think he didnt want to concern me so he said "the important things is that the cervix is closed"

Has this happened to anyone and should I be concerned that it is softening this early?? Thanks in advance for responses

Hi! I know all this stuff can be a little nerve wrecking! Just wanted to let you know that I have been soft and closed since week 28 wks or so. I was even 50% effaced at 28 wks too. My CNM said it doesn't mean too much. I have read that these internal exams don't mean a great deal. Some one can be dilated 2-3centimetrs, be fully effaced and soft and be NO where ready to deliver. While someone could be 0%effaced, cervix long and hard and deliver the next day. Everyone is different. A close girlfriend was fully effaced and 3 cent. dilated and had to be induced at 41wks 4 days . . . .

I am 35 weeks and will start my internal exams on Thurs - so it will be cool to see what I look like - but it will be soooooooo hard to not read into what my CNM says....
