I just found out im 4 wks. I have 4 kids 13,10, 6, 2, and 2 miscarriages one in 2007 & one in 2008. I am so nervous but so excited, but I dont want to do anything to harm the baby. I have been taking Ambien for over a year. I have always had trouble with sleeping ( Severe sleep apnea, and cant use the cpap), My dr. has had me take benadryl in the past pregnancies but it maked me drag the next day. I dont see the Dr for a few weeks and I have read on babycenter that some take it while pregnant, it works so good its out fo your system in 7 hrs and you dont feel so tired all day. I work plus have 4 kids so I cant be tired at all. But, I dont want to risk it, anyone know anything about this problem??

No idea, call your doctor's office or your pharmacist and ask. A nurse can usually tell you over the phone and you can hopefully get some sleep until you get in. If you can't take it, ask if there is something you can. You may need to call the doctor who prescribed the Ambien to call in the new medicine. Good luck and I hope you get some rest soon!

My doctor said it was ok to take ambien while pregnant but I had miscarriage in July so I try not to take it every night.Maybe im just paranoid.

check out http://www.safefetus.com/index.htm It'll tell you the class of the risk of the drugs and also what effects the drugs could have on your unborn baby so that you can try and make an informed decsion.

I took Ambien when I was pregnant with my now 4 month old son. I did not start taking it until I was in the 2nd trimester. I talked to my OB about it and he said that the molecule is to big to pass to through the placenta. Good luck. Call your doctor because every doctor has different "rules" it's always better to be safe than sorry!!!!!

Oh and I stopped taking it during the end of my third trimester because I was so afraid that my son would be born dependent on it---even though my OB said he would be fine. He was born perfect and healthy with no dependence.

I would call your doctor to make sure. I want to say that my cousin took ambien with her pregnancy later on because she couldn't sleep but not sure if that was the medication.
I took benadryl when I was sick only one pill not the 2 suggested on the box and that was ok. it didn't make me tired the next day but I only took it for 2 nights. so I don't know what long term effect it has.
I would call to just make sure...

I have been on it for several years. My Sleep Dr lowered the dosage when we told her I was trying to get pregnant.So that when we did we would not have such a hard time getting off it. My Ob then took me completely off it when I became pregnant. I did take it for the first 4 weeks before knowing I was pregnant. My ob told me sometmes she will prescribe it later on in pregnancy, but recommended not taking it until after first trimester. Definately call your Dr. Each one has different advice.

I take ambien as well as benedryl and i heard that it was safe.

When I was on the antipartum ward at 24 weeks due to pregnancy complications, they gave us an Ambien every night to help us rest. It is always so noisy and when you had to stay for several weeks it helped you tune it all out.

Deft call the doc and ask to see. I was told I could take half a unisom at night. But my nausea pills helps just enough for me. Good luck. I suffer from sleep apnea also and can't do a cpap as I take it off in my sleep.

No medications are completely safe in pregnancy or the data isn't there. That said, many OB/GYNs do Rx Ambien in pregnancy. I would slowly try to cut the dose or take it less frequently. I've suffered insomnia since 1995, so I can relate. I've been very tired in this pregnancy which has negated the need for Ambien (well, I've taken it a handful of times.) You can google the drug name and "pregnancy" for more info. "B" is more-or-less safe in moderation, "C" deserves reconsideration, and "D" is for don't. Ambien is a "C" and it DOES cross the placenta according to a recent study:
