I have had a couple 3D and 4D ultrasound's done. My OB has a machine to do this in his office, so I think I have already had 4 done (I am 23 weeks along). They are neat. It looks like a real picture instead of an ultrasound. Although I am happy that I got them done, I don't think I like them enough that I would pay extra money for it.

I think it's pretty cool but cringed at the fact that we ended up paying $125 for them.... My husband insisted because our 20 week ultrasound was just a 2D and didn't show much. He just wanted to make sure the boy was all good so we opted to pay for one at 28 weeks. That one was a bust cause his face was all smooshed and hands in the way so they let us come back for a free re-do. At 32 weeks they were much better and i'm super happy. I can't stop looking at him!

aww we had the 20 week scan 3 weeks ago, my fiance wants to make sure they were right about her being a little girl,
not that we mind, but i've gone a little pink crazy here :p
i'm abit cautious of having one at the moment because of the cost...
it would cost us 155 to have one, that includes 4 photos & a dvd recording of it
i'm just not sure would it be worth that much money, or would i be best off spending that money on the baby's nursery, hmm!
i know a couple of people who have had them and were over the moon with the results, a couple of others not so much!
maybe i'll leave this one upto my fiance!

i had them done at 23 weeks but my insurance paid for mine cus im high risk..... if u pay out of pocket for them id wait till like 30 weeks or longer because thats when they actualy have fat on them... i love my 4d ultrasounds but its a lil weird looking when they dont have much fat lol.... but they r realy neat i got a dvd of him an a cd with 20 pics on it..... i would defenantly do another one....

The best time to have a 3D or 4D scan between 26 and 30 weeks. Before 26 weeks the baby has little fat under skin, so the bones of the face will show through the skin. After 30 weeks the baby may go deep down in pelvis, so you might not be able to see the baby face. I know they are expensive but i think it is totally worth it. I had a 3d ultrasound done at 16 weeks just to find out the sex of the baby. My husband and I could not wait any longer! She was very tiny and of course skeletal at that stage, but it was sooo worth it. Even that early we could see she had 10 fingers and toes. I am going back on Friday for another one since I am farther along. I will be about 29 weeks when I get it done. I want to be able to show her these DVD's when she is older. A lot of places have gift cards for the ultrasound, maybe you could drop some hints that, thats what you want as a xmas gift ?? ;) just an idea.

i'm now at 32w3days
unfortunately we haven't been able to make much time to go for a 3d ultrasound (we run a couple of businesses and would have to travel quite a while to get to the nearest 3d scanning area)
we have phoned and enquired, but apparently they don't advise having a 3d ultrasound this late into the pregnancy as the baby has much much less room to move and she'd end up looking all squished, they also said depending on the positioning of the baby, if she is head down, there'd be very little chance of being able to see her face properly,
i'm a little gutted as i was looking forward to seeing what she looks like in more detail, but i guess i'll have to wait until she arrives :) 8 weeks to go!
