29 weeks and having contractions

I went to my doctor today because I have been really really tired lately and I started having cramping on wednesday. I didn't have any bleeding, so I didn't think I needed to go in earlier. But today my doctor said that the cramps are contractions. They are not severe, so she said that I should stay in bed as much as possible, or at least be in a chair. If they get worst or they don't go away in 3 days I have to go back in she will try to stop them with medicine.

I am so scared. I'm pregnant with twin girls, and I know that twins are usually born before 40 weeks, but 29 weeks is too early. I'm so scared for my girls. I have never had to be on bedrest before. My first two pregnancies were fine, no complications. I'm so worried.

Has anyone else had contractions this early, and were they able to stop them?

I started having contractions with my twins at 31 weeks, but I had not dilated at all. I was put on a medication that I had to take regularly to stop my contractions which seemed to work for a few weeks. I was also given two steroid shots to help develop the babies lungs. My doctor had told me that 32 weeks is the magic number. She said that once you reach 32 weeks, the chances of survival for both babies goes up immensely although it would still mean a lot of time in the NICU. I was able to make it to 34 weeks and 5 days. My twins both needed some help in the beginning and they ended up spending 23 days in the NICU, but they came home healthy. They are now 16 months old and besides being a little small for their age, developmentally, they are all caught up with babies who were born full term.

Good luck keeping those sweet babies in. I think it's normal to start contracting this early with multiples.

Don't worry. Just relax. Try and stay as calm as possible. The worrying will make the contractions worse. Pray for strength to just be calm and if you need meds trust the doctor and just stay as calm as possible. Twins are tricky, but you can do this.
