Coping with pregnancy after stillbirth
michaelamommy
Hi ladies, I had like 14 vials of blood drawn 1 week ago and got my results today. I am positive for C677T mutation and I have low levels of Protein S activity. I am so relieved to have more reassurance that I didn't cause my baby's death, but now I have to try to prevent it from happening again. My OB told me to start taking a 81mg aspirin daily, which I have been for over a month, but she said I probably don't need Lovenox. Probably? If ther's a chance that something will happen if I dont tale Lovenox I don't want to take that chance!! I read that with MTHFR you should take higher than average doses of folic acid but she didn't mention anything about it. I'm only taking what's in my prenatals.
Do any of you who have these conditions have any advice for me?
Thank you,
Amanda
Oh and Happy Thanksgiving!!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Did they check your homocysteine levels? It is my understanding that as long as your homocysteine levels are within normal levels, you are not affected by the MTHFR. Mine were but on the high side of normal so I am taking the Folbic as a precaution anyway.
The three I have talked to definitely did not suggest any kind of injections as, in their experience, the extra folic and baby aspirin works while the risks of having too thin blood (injections) are not worth it. I'm sure you've heard that 40% of the population has some form of MTHFR so obviously plenty of pregnancies go perfectly even with the mutation (nice to know and take the precautions though!). One doc also said he has never seen MTHFR lead to a stillbirth, only early miscarriages. That didn't make me feel any better about the future but it means this did not cause my 27 week stillbirth.
I agree it depends on what kind of MTHFR you have, whether your homocysteine levels are high, and how the Protein S factors in (I don't have that). I think you need to ask your doc more specific questions, get a second opinion, or switch doctors until you get one who can be really specific with you and convince you to trust them. At some point you either give over to trusting your doc or you need to get a new one. That's how I feel.
Also, don't trust everything you read on the internet! It will drive you crazy because it is so conflicting! Do some "real" research or call experts until you get "real" answers. There will always be someone out there doing more or less than you...making you second guess yourself...that's why a doc you trust is essential. Good luck!
I will just have to pray everyday that this little one arrives healthy and screaming.
