yeah, the directions that come with it SUCK! Basically, just put the gel on either your stomach or the wand tip, turn the thing on, and push around until you find something. The "B" has 3 modes for calculating heartbeat, which is the button that looks like it has a list on it or something. Mode 1 I think shows you real time, Mode 2 gives you an average, and Mode 3 doesn't show you any numbers, you just count it yourself. I read the directions and it's more a list of how to keep it clean (wipe it down, don't get it wet). It doesn't tell you how to use it. I hope what I've written is enough to get you started!

Thank you I figured it was somethign like that and have been playing around wil it baby is still a little small but I hope to get somethin in a month or so.

it also sometimes helps to keep the wand in one spot and just tilt it in different directions

Early on in my pregnancy when I used the sonoline B, I put the gel on the wand itself, the best place for me to find the heart beat was to go about 1 to 2 inches down from my belly button and start there. As I progressed in the pregnancy (now I'm 32 weeks) I still put the gel on the wand but I try to feel where he is laying and judge where the heart beat is from that. It is possible to pick up the cord and the placenta pumping as well. So it's important to get a feel for what sound is what. For example, with me the cord makes more of a slushing sound and the placenta sounds strong but not nearly as fast as the actual heart beat. The heart beat should sound more like horses running.

Jaimied - Thank you for your explanation. Although I am happy with my Sonoline B, I dont feel like I can determine where the heartbeat is...I keep hearing like a "swishing" noise, but can't tell what that is and I get so frustrated! Unfortunately, I am only 12 weeks and have gained quite a bit of wieght after my loss with Bella. So, I dont know if my fat is actually getting in the way...
Anyone else having problems finding the heartbeat?

It took me at least 10 minutes to find it the other night, and then the baby kept moving, so we never got a really accurate reading on what the rate was. ryannsmom recommended to me that I listen to some of the videos on YouTube so it would be easier to recognize the heartbeat. It's pretty helpful, because then you know what you are looking for.

JoelsMommy gave good directions. For mode three you can get numbers by waiting for a time and then press the light (third) button. It will give you the average of the time you waited.

Sometimes it does take a while to find it. Try taking your doppler to your next appt and ask them to help you determine the best place to put the doppler to get the heart beat.
