Just wondering if/when everybody started feeling Braxton Hicks contractions. I think I'm already having them (at 22 weeks), but I've always had a hard time determining whether it is Braxton Hicks or fetal movement. I know that sounds crazy, but it's been true with all 3 of my pregnancies.
Whitney I'm 21 weeks so right behind you. I was having the same issue a few weeks ago, maybe around 17-18 weeks. I couldn't figure out if it was flutters or what. I did notice though they felt as if it was my whole uterus tightening up, so I googled and was pretty sure that's what they were. I suspect for me they were from dehydration, as I had noticed 2 days in a row working 12hr shifts where I'd barely drank. Once I paid attention and started to keep hydrated they went away drastically. I make an effort to drink a lot though in the last few weeks, because stlll the same-sometimes I'm not sure if what I'm feeling is a BH or the baby, but as long as I'm hydrating I feel better about thinking it's baby.
My uterus tightened up even in the first trimester and got stronger and stronger. The BHs got pretty intense around 20 weeks. I can always tell that's what they are because my whole uterus is hardened, not just a few lumps here or there: those lumps between softer parts are definitely the baby.
I'm with Amber as far as drinking water. They became less frequent and not as intense. My doctor told me last week that the strength of them doesn't matter and to only contact them if I have more than 4 in an hour. I DON'T believe that, but am just telling you what he told me. He also said that with subsequent pregnancies they show up earlier. I believe that one.
I had some that were slightly noticeable, but not painful around 26/27 weeks, then it was just off and on ever couple of weeks up until delivery. And I felt was the same - thought it was just movement, almost like the baby was stretching, I wouldn't have known it was them without being hooked up to the NST the first time I had them, so doesn't sound crazy to me :)
I read it can start anywhere in the second trimester but uteruses dont follow rules. So when ever your baby feels ready to practice its going to start. My mid wife told me mote pregnancy = braxton hicks
I am currently 24 weeks along and I can feel great fetal movement and kicking, but I have been having contractions(braxton) for almost a month, I never really had them alot with our Angel pregnancy, but it seems almost daily with this one. Dr said as long as they dont last over five minutes per contraction and as long as they dont continue, then it is fine. He said the braxton hick contractions are no different then the uterus contracting if you are having intercourse while pregnant.
Good luck!
