You guys have probably had this topic onhere before but I'm going to ask anyways. Did your OB's tell you to abstain from intercourse? Are any of you not doing it by choice? When I got pregnant last Dec. my OB at that time told me, "no sexual relations until you reach 12 wks", mainly becausse I had had a miscarriage earlier in the year. My new OB said ther's no reason why I can't in my situation, but I am scared to do anything to jeopardize this pregnancy.
I know this is awfully personal but if any of you feel comfortable responding to this it would be helpful.
We have chosen to abstain...for now anyway. I was really lucky that my husband said he "could make it through this pregnancy..and for however long it takes for me to recover afterward...but then....I better be ready to make up for some lost time!" I'm just to nervous to do anything...and have felt too uncomfortable to ask my Dr. about it.
In the first trimester I was pretty scared to try. I have never had a MC but I was so overly paranoid (who am I kidding? I am still overly paranoid!) about everything that I just was not interested in intercourse. I usually just tried to... umm.. not let DH "make it that far" when we would fool around. That way I wouldnt have to worry :)
We are not abstaining. What happened with Gabriel had nothing to do with that, but I happen to feel absolutely sick to my stomach at night time, so needless to say, not much is going on in that department!
We are abstaining by choice, not dr orders. With my first, when we had intercourse, that very night I started to bleed so needless to say DH said NO! to intercourse this time. He said he can wait and doesnt want to do anything to jeopardize anything. Im not saying that is what caused us to loose Angel but DH thinks to this day that it is all his fault.
We are not abstaining. The doctors have told me many times that having sex in my case will do nothing to harm the baby. I am 31 weeks and the baby is doing beautifully. My doctor said that many times the tests you have during pregnancy are more invasive than sex and unless I were to have some condition that would make sex dangerous, abstaining just causes more stress on your relationship during an already stressful time.
I was told no sex for the first trimester... I had IVF though, so that may have made it more important to obstain. Honestly, once I was PG, we didn't have sex again until Lukas was here safe and sound, by choice though, not doctor's orders.
My rainbow baby is now 2 months old & we only had sex once during the first 12 weeks & after that about once a month. It was really more of an I'm too tired thing. But when we did have sex it didn't cause any problems.
I had a cerclage placed at 18 weeks on October 14 and we have been abstaining due to the cerclage since October 13. I am 30 weeks right now and get the cerclage removed in a little more than a month, after which time we can resume our normal sexual activity. We're waiting until 37 weeks (Feb 24) to actually get back into it, though, because we don't want intercourse / contractions to cause me to go into labor until then (I am super high risk for preterm labor so abstinence would have been a good idea even without the cerclage). Right now we're just hoping to make it to 36 weeks.
We found out that we were pregnant three days after our wedding, so we're still newlyweds. And this has been the least sexual period of our entire relationship, lol. Figures.
We are abstaining for now by choice. Likely will resume after 36 weeks as long as everything is normal. Only 18 weeks to go, lol!!!
I think its completely normal to worry about these things after living through the nightmare we all have.
We haven't completely. We do about every two weeks, because we are scared. Doctor said its fine and we could do it more often, but we are both too scared to do it more then every two weeks.
