Sorry for the late reply. See my post under Supprlin vs Lupron. I was just going to update there as well. My daughter had her first Lupron shot last month, and is due for another shot within the next couple of weeks. She has done terrific on this. One thing that Children's Hospital recommends, and it seems to help is Ice Therapy. She has an ice pack on her leg approximately 10-15 mins prior to the shot, and then 5 to 10 minutes after the shot.. Given Supprelin's track record or lack there of, as well as the side effects of mood swings, etc, I'm glad that we went with Lupron. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. How old is your daughter, if you don't mind my asking? My doctor is leaning toward the implant due to her size.

She is 8. When she was diagnosed, I did ask the specialist what she would do as she has two daughters. She said she would do the implant because it was more convenient, and her schedule didn't permit her to schedule monthly appointments. I didn't care so much about the convenience factor as much as the safety and long term effects of the drug. Because the implant has only been out for 2 years, the data just wasn't there. Like I said in my other post on Lupron vs Supprelin, I brought this concern to my Endo, and she didn't disagree or offer any contradictions to my concerns. Again, it's a personal choice, and if something were to go wrong, and I couldn't do the Lupron, I would have to take the chance with Supprelin and hope for the best as I think it's important to stop the growth and development. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks. I have a lot to think on. Convenience is less of the issue as her handling the shots and me handling her during the shots. I have MS and can often not walk nor drive due to the MS. But I would hate for there to be side effects. It all confuses me me at this point. Thank you very much for you input. I greatly appreciate it.

Hi there, my daughter is also 2 and has been on Lupron for 6 months now. One Endo strongly recommended the implant for convenience and less pain but our other endo (we moved) encouraged the shots since the implant was still new and she was so young. I'm curious as to why your Dr. recommended the implant because of her size? Just to avoid regular shots?

Hi, my daughter (Gabrielle) was diagnosed with precious puberty when she was 9 months old. Shortly after she was born we received a letter in the mail saying her thyroid levels were abnormal and we were referred to an endocrinologists.

When she was born she weighed 6 lbs. 3 oz. but by her 4th week she weighed 10 lbs. For the first four months I had to keep taking her for the doctors to take blood to check her thyroid levels. Then at her 4th month check up, the pediatrician told me her breast buds were probably my harmones still in Gabrielle's body. However, at Gabrielle's 6 month check up, the pediatrician told me to have the endocrinologist look at her at her next appoinment.

At her next appointment with the Endocrinologist, he confirmed she did have breast buds and set up an appointment for her to have an ultra sound of her ovaries. the ultra sound confirmed that she had precocious puberty.

She began taken the Lupron injections when she was 11 months and continued until she was 4 1/2 years (this past spring). The injections were very painful and we had to hold her down for the nurse to give it to her.

We switched to the Suprelin implant which she received the first one this past May. it is once a year and because she was so young they put her to sleep. Her arm was sore for about a week, but I think was worth it. I don't have to watch her endure the shots every four weeks.

Hannah just turned 3, she is getting her implant on January 5th. Bracing myself for all of this and hope all goes well in regards to her personality and such.

My daughter is 2 1/2 and we are still with Lupron however we are considering switching to the implant next year. Deedran73, or other moms w young kids on these medications. Have you noticed that your children are extremely moody or emotional. Have you seen any improvement or worsening with the implant? Thanks!
