Pre-menstrual Syndrome (PMS) Support Group
Premenstrual Stress Syndrome (PMS) is stress which is a physical symptom prior to the onset of menstruation. PMS is exceedingly common, occurring in 75% of women of reproductive age during their lifetime, characterized by symptoms of mood swings, depression, anxiety and irritability. It is often accompanied by physical symptoms such as bloating and cramping.

I had the same problems, I'd start having symptoms around when I'd ovulate & they last until I started my period...I found a site where you can do a chart of your symptoms (there are several different ones), kept track, took it to my Dr. & she said I was the PMDD poster child. She strated me on Lexapro & I'm still sort of adjusting to that...this past month has been a bit better though! :o) I'd have uncontrollable jealousy (my poor husband), didn't like him or anybody for a couple weeks, including myself!
Good Luck! :o) Hope this helps!!
One thing that I have found really helps me with the anger issues, is working out. I find that I am really nasty in the morning, I go work out and it helps me get through the rest of the day for the most part. I am still on edge, but nothing like i was before.
I also, take Evening Primrose Oil. That seems to help as well.
So Lexapro is one med...any others that are not virth control?
It's like Dr. Jekyl and Ms. Hyde.
My head feels like it's about to explode from the stress and extreme anger that was "triggered" by an incident about an hour and 1/2 ago. Spoke and acted in manner that I wish I could take back...like all of you, it's like it has COMPLETE control of ME. Any other time of month I'm able to take on any problems very constructively.
Had other months (can count them on one hand) where PMS wasn't nearly as severe...even one month where my period arrived without any problems.
Regular excercise is big help. Staying away from caffeine, chocolate, and alcohol at this time during the end of your cycle is a must. These all aggravate "pitta" or heat in your system which just stokes the anger.
I am on a SSRI (quite low)dose, but still have the extreme PMS. I up my dose the couple weeks (when I can remember) at end of cycle.
If you can't try acupuncture go online and start doing self- Shiatsu, or acupressure a little bit every day.
Keeping your bowels 'moving' during this time is important...when energy/ stress can flow thru you rather than getting trapped inside your body and just making you tense. Google "triphala" online. I started using this to keep my usual pms constipation at bay. I read that most women experience PMS because their 'energy' is 'stuck', instead of flowing down which is what it should do this time of month. So things like acupuncture, acupressure, triphala, aim at treating the root of the cause rather than treating just the symptoms say with antidepressants. If you're on antidepressants, it'd be great to slowly start incoporating these alternatives...maybe you're system will become so in balance you won't need meds anymore!
Found rising prior to dawn each morning also helps my mood (anytime during my cycle)...balances my hormones or something...
Why am I not currently doing acupuncture myself? I'm asking myself that same question right now...
