Pre-menstrual Syndrome (PMS) Support Group
Premenstrual Stress Syndrome (PMS) is stress which is a physical symptom prior to the onset of menstruation. PMS is exceedingly common, occurring in 75% of women of reproductive age during their lifetime, characterized by symptoms of mood swings, depression, anxiety and irritability. It is often accompanied by physical symptoms such as bloating and cramping.
The worst part is the bizarre suicidal thoughts. I remember sitting in the break room at work once, staring at a fire extinguisher thinking I could set it off and inhale it. WHO THINKS THAT?!!
It took me forever to make the connection, but it is pretty darn clear once I noticed it that every month about a week before my period I turn into a crazy person. It's better than when I thought I was just randomly a crazy person though, at least I can predict when it will happen and can honestly tell myself that I know it's only temporary.
Just remember, it's only temporary (until next month, but don't think about that part :p ). And it IS legitimate. It's totally ok to ask people to take it easy on you because you're "sick" if you want to. It's not an excuse, but it is a reality that shouldn't be totally ignored.
