Pre-menstrual Syndrome (PMS) Support Group
Premenstrual Stress Syndrome (PMS) is stress which is a physical symptom prior to the onset of menstruation. PMS is exceedingly common, occurring in 75% of women of reproductive age during their lifetime, characterized by symptoms of mood swings, depression, anxiety and irritability. It is often accompanied by physical symptoms such as bloating and cramping.
The hormones I'm taking are helping relieve some of the symptoms but then there are others that have cropped up from them. My PMS I now relate to that of the Incredible Hulk taking over my whole persona. Shoot I want to hide even from myself on many days.
I crave random crap (causing me to gain weight), I lash out & cuss everybody that stands in my way, my mind goes completely "numb", I just can't think or focus on ANYTHING. I randomly let stuff get to me and I just bawl my eyes out. & with OCD it makes things a lot worse because I'm having unwanted harm thoughts as well & God knows I would NEVER do ANYTHING to anybody or myself, so that's causing anxiety and panic, fear that I'm psychotic even though I'm not.
I'm on 50 mg of zoloft. It helps only between periods, and when it gets close, it's like I'm not even taking anything. :\ So I'm wanting to get in with my obgyn to see if she could help me out further by getting me on BC or something.
& Tabby, certain birth controls WILL help you. Like the depo shot could stop your periods completely. And there's BC where you can only have 4 periods in one year.
Crzycookie, wow, I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that. My mom would literally bleed like 2 months at a time, stop for 3 days, and start again. It was so bad, she was ANEMIC. She would put 3 pads on and it STILL wouldn't stop anything. She finally got to a doctor and they ran an ultrasound, turns out she had a 14 lb tumor on her uterus, and a number of fibroids on her fallopian tubes, ovaries, etc. She had to have a complete hysterectomy. So in a sense I know what you're going through because I watched my mom go through it.
