Growing a household from camping gear has called for more shopping in two months than I normally do in 2 or 3 years. Shopping has never been a preferred passtime in my senses. Big surprise that I am not very good at it, huh? When a need arises, I typically grab the first thing that looks like it might feed the need. If it doesn't. . . well. . . I'm stubborn enough to fit a square peg into a round hole. Take the time to compare prices? Am I supposed to care? It all comes out in the wash. So I tell myself. . . Truth is, I'm just looking for the easiest way through the parts I don't like. Maybe? Sorting. . .


The shopping spree has me thinking about how often what I want turns out to be a far cry from what I need.


Thoughts? Experience? Non sequiturs?

I am up for personal shopping! Hand up! One of my better skills living in a lifelong budget.
This junk house was a test when I moved here but I have become an online fluent researcher for price/quality and versatility.

I do like to budget and save... but I hate shopping and will try to pawn it off on hubby (if we need something). Which is bad because he likes to spend and will come home with 3 versions of the same thing. :(

I'm one of those who loves to shop..... The momentary high.....and I love decorating.... I would have liked to work in that realm.... If I was there Arf I'd help you to spend your money ....I'd like to have a Decorating on a Dime business..... Big hug.......xo

I hate shopping. I hate decorating. (I used to actually like to decorate a little bit.)

Shopping used to be a pleasure for me once but any joy has been drained by having to watch every penny now. That being said your surroundings often affect your mental state so I still try to do the best I can wherever I live. I wonder if you're an instinctive decorator Alfie? You know one of those people who instinctively know what will go together and doesn't have to dither. Anyway best of luck in your efforts. Make it yours.

do you have any second hand stores around there? maybe a larger city nearby? if you can find somewhere with lots of them you can find some amazing deals and get a bunch of bargains in one trip w/a truck.

i found several pieces of furniture for about 4 dollars each that way. that was about my budget at the time. really, it still is. that or free.

i'm trying not to get free things anymore though.

No instinctive decorator here, Looney. I am much better at knowing which machine parts go where than I am at knowing how to mix prints and colors. Every place I've ever decorated looks like it was decorated by an engineer. Maybe 'cause it was. . . Then we get to my wardrobe. . . I make Albert Einstein look like Cary Grant.

Such an offer has been a lifelong dream for me, SunC. Don't hold your breath, Patti. I bet I can keep her busy for a lo-o-o-ong time.

I am with Loo on this one. I used to enjoy shopping for home goods. Not clothing, that is a huge pain and I dread it. I guess I still enjoy shopping for home goods but disability and little income make that hard to do when you have to make a choice between two needs instead of wants. I find online shopping at amazon to be pretty awesome. I do try to force myself to go 'out' to get it though because I need to get out. Everything I have is multi functional and serves more than a few purposes. I do like to decorate! I bet an engineer style place would be pretty darned cool. Industrial. Hire me too!

After working for years in retail, I refuse to buy anything unless it is on sale.
For my own sanity, don't even like to go into stores, so overwhelming, the stores I have to go to for food, drug store, etc, I check out on line their sale flier, make a list and I'm in and out. Clothing, online purchases which don't really matter if a bit on the big side....most all stores have their sales posted on line, or regular products...hoping this might be an option :)

I hate shopping too. For me, it's the crowds and random movement around me. I am one of those folks with eyes on all doors at all times. I try to shop on my lunch break at work. There are lots of shopping spots nearby and if I go during an early lunch less commotion and foot traffic. I have less anxiety and more patience.

    Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
